We had an awesome New England Club DSM meeting at NED. Must have had 30-40 locals, in addition to the usual crowd.

My first run was a very disappointing 11.50 at 121mph. Green Machine definitely felt slow. But on the return road I remembered that I forgot to pug-in my BOV/MBC line, so my wategate was completely closed and my BOV was open… explaining the poor performance. It is really great when you can find a simple solution to what seems like a serious problem! :)

My second run was another 10.94 at almost 132 with a pretty bad 1.75 60’ time and “only” 26psi of boost.

I cranked up the boost on my 3rd run (it ended up at 31psi) and launched with out the aid of the stutterbox (to avoid the wheelspin). I do not know how I managed 1.66 60’ time this late in the evening, but I did… I nailed the rest of the gears (lifted on 1-2, but didn’t on 2-3 and 3-4) and ran 10.741 at 132.95!!!

I am really excited with Green Machine’s latest performance. I can not wait to tune it some more an then race it a the last import event in just 2.5 weeks! I decided to scrap the idea of trying out nitrous this year, but I might make it a bit lighter. I am also going to install JIC suspension in hope of braking 1.50 barrier…

Wow, congratulations man! :thumb: :D  :dsm:

I hope you keep on chugging away, and getting faster. I remember your car when it had the 14b on it, but now this thing is even more insane!

Gotta give props to your 10 second car.....

BTW: You have the best looking engine bay I've ever seen on a DSM

Congrats,

Congrats Leon!!! Its funny, my friends call my talon the green machine too. LOL.

You got specs on your car up anywhere? Also, id like to see what this engine bay looks like.

Thanks guys!

>Its funny, my friends call my talon the green machine too. LOL.

Yes, but we all know the original Green Machine, the ZX7 :). That is where my name came from, back in the ’96.

>You got specs on your car up anywhere? Also, id like to see what this engine bay looks like.

Did you happen to look at my profile and photo gallery?

i did look at the gallery, but i apparently didnt look close enough... i saw the first shot of the engine bay and thought you must have had old pics up. anyway, that is definately a clean engine bay with lots of room... must be butter to drop that tranny.

is that an earls fuel filter on the oil feed line? and whats that second polished bottle next to the overflow bottle?

Hats off to you Leon. :thumb: I have the same turbo, but I guarantee you won't see me running those times. Keep up the awesome work.

Congradulations Leon! Its gotta be pretty exciting getting into that time category. Unfortunately my DSM experience went south before I could better my times...

So what does Mr. Huml think? I bet hes pretty happy =) you are advertising his product well :D

Had another pretty good day at the track.

4 more 10 sec runs:

10.86 at 133
10.88 at 117 (braking early to avoid running faster than 11.50, due to lack of scatter shield)
10.72 at 135 < new personal best
10.88 at 135

Needless to say, the car is running pretty consistent :). I was hopping to be able to put down some decent 60' times, but that was not to happen.... My best 60' was 1.62 on that 10.72 run, where I can typically get mid 1.5's.

That was enough to beat a 10.8 sec Supra TT in the final, but unfortunately, we both got disqualified for lack of safety equipment: I got bagged for not having a scatter shield and he got bagged for not having ANY safety features (cage, fire suit, harness and scatter shield). Still, this was one of my best races in a while :thumb:.

bloody hell!! NICE job!! :D

and as for your less than perfect 60'?? Phhssss. I wish I could get those miserable 1.6XX times. I'd go 12's with those. My last 13.6 was on a 2.0.

Grndsm what are you using for tires. With power I cant get beter then 1.9 11.0 at 132mph.I have 16inch rims and cant find drag radeils. What are my options. There no point in throwing power at the car at this point. Its just spins.I am afrade to go with a 15inch rim cuase I am going threw the traps at 7900 rpm at 132.

Well, I did go with the 15" tires :). I am using BFG G-force Drag Radials in 225/50/15. They are shorter than stock, but work rather well (after initial break in stage, when they weren't all that great).

I forgot to look where my RPMs were at 135mph, but as long as it was under 8k, I should be able to go back to my log and look it up. I can do that later tonight.

I believe that Curt Brown ran 140+ on the same tires.

At this point, I am comfortable with taking my car up to 8500-8800, so I should still have some room.

BTW, what car are you talking about: a DSM or a Starion? RWD cars have much more options for very good drag radial tires.

In that case, you should be able to do much better than 1.9 60' times! Just about any tires should give you 1.7s, unless the the track is in really bad shape!

i have a stutterbox that gives me 10psi off the line running stock clutch and temporary cheap, no tread 17" tires (2 different brands, 1 is not even going the right direction!) and have done 1.6 sixty foot times. what clutch / suspension setup are you using?

btw nice times dude. what do you weigh at now and have you ever dyno'd the car with current setup? sorry if its already been asked, you switch your setup alot and its hard to keep track LOL :)

>btw nice times dude. what do you weigh at now and have you ever dyno'd the
>car with current setup?

My was around 2900 with me all season long, I just took out passenger seat (~20lbs) and a cat back (~30lbs), so I am down to around 2850lbs. I am around 210lbs, so the car by itself is ~2650lbs.

I just got a fiberglass hatch, so I will replace my rear hatch with it and some Speed Glass, that should drop extra ~40lbs. Then, I am going to work on some light doors. Since my doors are 100% stock (around 90lbs), there is a lot of weight that can be shed there (like bring it down to around 30lbs/door). The goal is to have the car down to around 2500lbs and still have it look like a street car :).

>sorry if its already been asked, you switch your setup alot and its hard to keep track LOL

LOL, I know, it is tough to keep track of it. Speaking of which, I am going to update it, so it should be fairly current.

Thanks Chris!

But unfortunately, we need to go into hibernation over the winter in New England :). So no more racing for me until spring :(. Actually, I could use some time off and welcome it just about every year.

Campaigning a race car 2-3 races per month for 7 straight month takes toll on you after awhile. I am going to put it away into storage for a couple of month and they I will build it up for the next year, lighter and mor e powerful!

Nice times and congrats. I was wondering, what was the fastest you've gone on your other stock motor(at least I think thats what you had listed before, something like stock 140k shortblock) before you put the built motor in? Again, sweet times :thumb:

Leon,

Congrats on hitting the 10s!! I was just wondering where you got your fiberglass hatch and how the fitment is. I'm looking into doing a hatch as well.

Did you ever see what RPM you are trapping at with the 15s? I'm crossing the traps ~7600 @ 135mph with the 15s.
