Ok, so one of my friends called me when i was at work and asked me if i wanted to race a first generation GSX, so i was like sure why not. I asked my friend if the guy had anything done to it, and he said he had a hacked air can, an exhaust, and a different turbo he thinks. The rest of the engine bay was duct taped and zipped tied he said, so i'm guessing he had to fix alot of vacuum leaks or something.
So i take a break from work and go to where everyone was hanging out at, and i asked who the guy was that i was going to race, and my friend pointed him out to me. I went over and asked what he had done to it, which he replied with "Alot, how about we race and then i'll tell you what i have done and you tell me what you have done?"
He had quite the cocky attitude i found out. And I thought DSM's were a family, he's got no love or what? My friend then tells me that when i was on my way the guy told him that he was running a 16G, had a K&N filter, a manual boost controller, all new vacuum lines, and a bunch of other stuff and it was REALLY FAST.
It's go time. We head out to a back road and set up people at both ends, then line em up. Flagger drops his arms and we go. I was expecting to get him off the launch simply because the 16g would make it just a tad slower the way he launched. But i pulled a full car on him by the end of first, and i cut into 2nd gear like warm butter, pulled another car on him when i expected to see him scream by me. Third gear comes up and i'm still pulling away, so i hit the 4-ways at the end of third and take the win.
Now's the weird part. We get to the end of the road and he asks me what turbo i'm running, and i tell him the stock T25, and he asks me how much boost, and i tell him 17 pounds. Then i ask him the same and he says this:
"A 16g and 22 psi. I thought it was going to blow the motor! But we gotta run again cuz my turbo was slipping. I got to 22 but there was nothing there."
Ummmmmmmm......... since when do turbos SLIP????? I always thought they either spin or break. Anyways, we all go back to where we met, and he asked what i had done, so i popped my hood and had show-and-tell. He said he wouldn't have raced me if he knew i had all this stuff. I didn't have the AFC yet though.
So how retarded is this guy? Or how retarded am i for not knowing that a turbo can slip?
