What are some cheap lightweight rims that are out there for our cars? I was looking for 14" rims at about 10 pounds each. Do you guys have any ideas/suggestions. I've heard slipstreams are cheap and light. Also, I'm not one bit concerned with looks:p

Why do you want 14" wheels?

I don't think those are going to fit over your rotors, but maybe I'm wrong.

Speedy: Volks are really nice but definately out of my price range.

Laser: I'm pretty sure 14's fit on the fwd's but not on the awd. I want 14's to take better advantage of gearing and rotational mass.

jdmawd: Those Velox's sound nice how much are they?

turbo awd: Do you know how much those rims weigh?

Thanks for the input guys:thumb:

Is tire rack a good place to buy rims and tires???

1875 for 17x7 with tires

Volks TE37s or Racing hart cp-035s would be best if you have the money.

SSR comps and Rotas are good otherwise.
Also rx7 wheels are pretty light, 16x8.

Like laser 0385 said, i dont think 14s will clear the brakes

Bogart could probably make you the lightest set of wheels but they are pricey.
I run 215/35/18s and I feel this is about as short as you want to go for gear ratio, I'm sure you could get a shorter tire for a 16 inch rim.
Mine are on the verge of looking dorky as short as they are.

I'd love to have some volk's or racing hart rims but i could only afford them if i sold one or both of my kidneys on the black market:p
I think i'm heading towards the rota's or maybe even the rx7 rims. Don't the rx7 rims weigh like 15#'s where as the average stock eclipse rims weigh about 21#'s or so?
Dv8tion i want a lower gear ratio but i'd rather get a smaller rim and get tires that aren't really low profile because low profile tires have TONS of sidewall support which adds weight and is super stiff(not good for drag racing).

thanks for all the advice guys:thumb:

MXRACER,

You are going about it the wrong way! First, you should pick a perfect tire (or as close as you can get to it). Believe me, there aren’t too many good choices :(. Once you have a tire size in mind, you can then get a matching wheel. Keep in mind that in addition to being the right diameter, it will also have to be wide enough. Many standard 14” wheels might be too narrow for most tires that we tend to run.

I just went through a similar process, I needed to get some really good drag tires. After doing some research, I found that BFG G-force Drag Radials is the best drag tire at this time (much better than Nittos). The problems is that they do not make them in 16” (my prefered size), so I had to ether go to 17” or 15”. Naturally 15’s are better for ¼ mile performance, but 17’s look much better. It was a tough choice, which was made easy by the fact that 17” Drag Radials are out of production at this time (and will not be for another month or so), so I went with the 15” tires.

Once I had the right tire in mind (225/50/15), I had to find the right wheels. I choose Rota Subzeros (15x6.5) because of their light weight (12lbs each) and low cost ($430/shipped).

If I was you, I would not stick to ANY particular wheels size unless it also delivered the best tire available! Because when you get right down to it, right tires are much more importantant than rims… And low rotating mass is nowhere near as important as good traction!

Check out this months sport compact car. They compare like 220 rims and give nice details about all of them.

I don't think 14s will even fit and if they do they will look ugly as hell. Youd have to get such a thick tire so your speedometer is right and so you don't loose hella speed once you're off the line .... that's just my opinion.

thicker tires will make you loose cornering ability so no point in doing that. You can get 16s/17s that are very light ... just do that. 16s or 17s will look good AND perform good.

check out the new turbo magazine, they have an article with 15's-19's and different brands a pic and how much each weighs, its all about lightweight, there are many 17-18's that are as light as the 15's

Some misinformation here. Even if a 18" wheel is the same weight as a 14" wheel, the 18" has a much higher moment of inertia, so it will impede acceleration much more. The wheel size is actually significantly more important than the weight. Technically the tire weight matters more, but tires are usually pretty similar weight and compound is more important than weight.

Also, it very much depends on the tire for cornering ability. I can choose 14" and 18" tires where the 14" have a much stiffer sidewall and better cornering characteristics easily. For auto-x particularly having too large a wheel can be bad (I've seen a few people corner hard enough to dig a large wheel into the pavement).

ur on crack, those rims are like 20 lbs. 14's wont fit for sure. i have stock 3g rx7 wheels on my car. i went from 2003 eclipse gts rims to those and lemme tell ya, they are great. totally noticed the difference. its like havin under drive pulleys on ur car. they only weigh like 14 lbs too. if you are fwd just get 2. at 8 inches wide they would be great for slicks

I know for a FACT that 14" rims a la the RS 2g rims do fit on FWD 2gs.

My friend has a pair of BFG Drag Radials mounted on the stock RS rims for his GST. Somehow they were able to shoehorn 225s on the rim!!!!!!

I forgot what the height is, but I'll see if I can get the info.
