420a turbo goes 11.414@119.62

Meh, I hesitate to post this up because of the crappy time (and the way I did it), but figured i'd share a little for the 420a crowd.

Last minute chance to get out of my job and go to a rental at our local track (LVD). Cold as witches titties and no sun. Still got a little hook but lots of track wet downs (pet peeve; guys if you go to the track ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A TRACK CAR put water in your cooling system. It works better than coolant and it doesn't shut down the track for an hour each time you blow a hose /end peeve). Maybe 2 1/2 hours of actual racing time.

Worked up to full race because of the cold. Second run (first lost intercooler t-bolt), warm up drive train 14.6. Third run, warm up drivetrain again (coolant on track) 13.1. Fourth run hit it a little harder 12.6. Fifth run, change shift points to stay in boost 11.4 @ 119.62 (with a 1.845 launch).

BUT, I stoopidly forgot to hit my switch to turn the water to air intercooler on. So I basically went down the track with no "intercooling" on a BW366 @29lbs. Not the best of ideas.

Just before the end of the track, I had an explosion of water and steam come up out of my hood vent. Lost the upper radiator hose. Figured I popped the HG because I didn't hit the switch, but when I got home I checked it out and it seems like the clamp just broke.

Eh, crib notes I was stupid and tried to blow up my car. Car as it sits is good for 10's, if only the driver would do it!! Dummy

Amazing, sometimes track days just go like that. At least it was coolant and not oil like I left all over Milan's track!

Good job on 11.4 with the 420a. What is the current 420a dsm record anyways? I get the feeling you'll be overtaking that pretty quickly.

Aha! So you're one of THOSE guys, lol. J/K Generally, its accepted that those guys with dailies probably have antifreeze in them. Kinda tough to expect them to switch it out just for the race. But today these were full race cars with 50/50 mixes

Appreciate it (though I'm not happy with the time). The current record is 10.87 (held by Hahn). With anecdotal numbers of 10.7. I pretty much thought I would get that this year but the weather has been fighting us pretty badly. I guess the Race Gods are saying its not meant to be yet, lol.

Oh and there was some video'ing going on. Don't know if they got that run or not

It was still bad-ass period! We are human. If we never made mistakes we wouldn't get any better. Glad to hear that the head gasket may be ok! If you need any help or wanna hang out and work on it let me know!!! I'm CERTAIN you'll run beyond Hahn's runs........let's talk soon!

It's like I tell everyone else, you can't go out and expect to run the best times ever the first or even sometimes second time out on a new setup. It takes time to learn things. Not saying it can't or won't happen the first time out, just that you can't be so hard on yourself if you don't hit those great times right away. But you know how much potential it has now!

What liquid to air are you using?

No doubt, but honestly, Mark is very laid back, almost the opposite of me. He brushed it off like it was nothing whereas I would stew for weeks over something like that. I think that's why he and I work well together. He knows what he's got, and of the potential, so, eventually it will come out!

Outwardly, lol. No stewing over time or anything but I know I'm my toughest critic. Ask your wife how many times I hit that imaginary switch while I sat in the stands. By the same token, I like to laugh it off because of this;

Hey buddy, good to hear from you. Yeah, looks like we're both gonna be waiting for next year (though I haven't quite given up the outside possibility of maybe.... lol). This is gonna give Ragetech a lot of extra time (Dang Florida all year round ).

I've got no problem talking about shift points etc. on the thread.
1st to 2nd - 8k. Would like to go higher but I can't trust that sloppyass tranny I got in there. I also, couldn't speed shift because of it. I actually screwed in some brackets to make a chute for the shifter arm to follow so I could bounce off the channels to slip her in.

2nd to 3rd 7.9k Again it seems like it would be happier just above (or at) 8k but I couldn't trust the tranny. Although, because of the bracket, I was able to speed shift here.

3rd to 4th 7.6k This number was wrong. I should have held out a slight bit longer around 7.8k.

This was all done on 26 X 15 X 8.5's with 10lbs one side and 11 lbs the other. I did want to lower that, but was afraid (because of the 26's) that the crappy tranny may not hold.

I think I got a "special" fix for the tranny though .

Thanks! No problem, glad you like! The wife took some good shots and said we came close to running together but the lines were off. Next time! Would be cool to have a pic together!

Fixable but definitely out for the season now. I have to pull the block because there is a very slight groove there as well. Learn your lesson yet , polack?

Hey on the bright side, at least my comp will go up, lol.

Ouch! That one hurts a little bit. At least you have some downtime for it, but I'm still sorry about your luck.

Yeah Shane, honestly no big deal. Part of what I signed up for when racing (but preferably not something I do TO myself )

Yeah, got to. There is a slight mar on the deck surface. I ALMOST said screw it and put a used HG on and was going to fix the head so I could race saturday. But decided against it. Didn't want to screw up the block any more.
