II remember a request from an old post that I can't find for 1/4 mile times of people running an EBAY 16g, so I decided to post my results. I'm car #323 in the left lane, the right is my buddie Scott in his Spec-V.

This was one of only two runs that night due to us getting rained out. The first one involved my bouncing of rev limiter spinning all four due to me trying to launch like I did on the stock clutch and turbo. This was the second run of the night with a little bit of wheel spin out of the hole. Honestly if I had aired down my tires and did a few more runs I could have got at least a 13.0 since I usually cut 1.7-1.8 60' times consistently with this car by the end of the night. This was done on 16PSI with a very un aggressive tune due to my stock sidemount sucking balls and causing the car to pull timing way before I can get to my target AFR (.96 volts using the front O2 method, slightly richer above 6000rpm). I'm pretty happy with the results considering my fairly basic setup, I'm gonna see if I can push this turbo into the elevens reliably. And if it blows up I guess I'll be out a whole $200 ;). Anyone else run there ebay setups recently? If so please share your times!!!

Well I used my "rain check" from us getting rained out last time and managed to pull a 13.1@105MPH.

I still don't think I'm getting everything out of the car though, there's allot of water in the pits because its been raining allot lately and I'm picking up a little sand on the tires because of it, its also been very cold and cloudy so there's no sun to warm up the track during the day. Once I get better track conditions I should be able to run 12's. Even though I haven't got any replies (DSM's apparently aren't interesting unless there running 9's on pump gas or making 1000AWHP) I will still post this information as proof the an EBAY 16G can perform just as good as an MHI unit. And this is still on 16PSI and stock SMIC that's getting heat soaked so bad I am completely unable to get a good tune out of this setup.

damn nice job. I thought that most of those Ebay 16g's were junk. I guess this goes to show ya..:thumb:

not bad. theres more in it i don't know the elevation at that track or the da but i have seen others with the ebay 16g trap as high as 117 but with more mods of course. i have had my 92 laser rs trap 103-104 on the 14b stock except boost bump to 17-18 and cat gutted and k&n filter. i think you could get 108-109 out of it.

13.2 at 110 on an ebay 16g with a 1.97 60ft... I keep breakin them loose on hard launches because it was cold in michigan... I need some 60 degree weather up here..

Same problems here in NH, its cold as a bi***. And as I said with water in the pits that I can't avoid its a bi*** to get this thing to hook.

Ya im going back later this month and going to push 24 lbs. I will have ceddys tuning program and race gas so Im sure i can break 12s

I don't think anyone questioned their ability to make power, there was someone about to get into the 11's on one of these a while ago. The question is how long it will last while it's making power.

If you get your 60' down then you will be in 12.

Not so great right now, as I said the last two times there was allot of water in the pits. I'm goin again wensday with a few friends, I'm hoping conditions will be better. Its actually a pretty good track when the weather's nice, theres just allot of low spots that collect water if its been raining allot.

Nice runs man, don't listen to the doubters here- I don't think ANY OF THEM have any experience w/the ebay turbo's. Just hearsay- I know of my old car w/over 10k on an ebay turbo now running like a champ still and being abused daily. Not to mention the hundreds of supra, rx7, etc users that use ebay turbos and don't complain.

We can get into an argument on ebay vs name brand all day but this is more about his time slip on the turbo. I run an ebay turbo so keep this in mind. Nice time slip bud not to bad for some chinamens junk. I think everyone can agree that ebay turbos are good for a starter turbo just to get you on the road like myself because i didnt have one. They are junk though they will last 20,000 tops unless your lucky where as a oem one will last 100,000 plus. I want a real 16g so i dont have to keep checking for shaft play but im with you on that "hey its 200 if it blows up o well". My thoughts exactly untill i can get a real turbo. I dont like undercutting name brand companys like my beloved mitsubishi but it sucks being broke.

For not much more than the price of a real 16g, you can get a bigger turbo though. Heck, I could do a Holset cheaper than a real 16g.

My cousin has been running a fake 16g since last summer, and he's had it at 24psi since last fall (20 before that). He bought it for only 80 bucks and it's been great so far. How could he even think to pass up a deal like that? It definitely spools a little slower (full boost at 32-3300RPMs) than my real e3-16g, but from most of the reading I've done on here I haven't heard much of spooling as fast as mine does, so maybe it's something else in my setup or tune that makes mine spool so good.

If the average ebay16g life was anywhere near 20,000 miles, many more people would be running them! I wouldn't be surprised if less than 10% last that long, especially at 20psi+

To the OP, Good times on the 16psi and like said before, you are a good launch away from 12s.

^^^ I ran an ebay evo3 16g on my car for about 65k miles at no less then 17psi (NO REBUILD) but constantly inspected my turbo every oil change.. on my gst and was still going strong when i swapped it.;) had shaft play, but not even enough to hit the turbine housing after it had no oil in it (in my garage) for a few months. it held up pretty damn good i would say. only reason i even replaced it is ### i got a great deal on a 20g turbo that i couldn't pass up. BTW, i took GREAT care of my car, but ran the shit outta it constantly.:rocks: if anyone doubts my mileage... know that i bought my car over 5 years ago with 130k miles on it... maybe 5k miles later i threw on the 16g, and it was on there past 200k... my car now has around 215k on it!:hellyeah::hellyeah:...

If you get a good one, it is worth the money saved. lets hope you got a good one man.:thumb:

Pretty good number for a start BTW... tune it and crank itup (if you have the supporting mods) Its a fun little turbo!

It's easy to doubt without any proof. I'm not suggesting that you are lying. I'm suggesting that you've still proven nothing. So don't take it that I see you in a bad light. Just no different than any other internet claim.

No one is douting the aerodynamics of the wheels and housings, afterall it should be an exact replica. Will it last? Is it worth it? The aerodynamics have already been proven by the real mhi turbo users :). There's nothing wrong with buying cheap if you're prepared for the consequences.

And yes I HAVE run an ebay turbo. Have pics if you want to see. And yes it did fail. Epically and predictablly. And yes I did do it to prove that there are some times that it works and some times that it doesn't. but most don't want a turbo that some times works and sometimes doesn't. As mentioned you can get a used holset with oem quality for about the same price. It will spool actually faster and flow far more. And after another 200 in cost will be a bolton turbo like any ebay 16g. You could spend at least twice as much over that 200 extra cost searching for that ebay 16g turbo that stays together.

Reardrv, keep us updated! And I think it might stay together since you've pushed it a little and it hasn't already blown :thumb:

You probably have the highest mileage ever on an ebay16g. Some people go through 3 or 4, just to get one that lasts 10k miles. Do you remember the vendor you purchased yours from? Many are made with inferior bearings, seals, etc. as well as poor balancing which are many times the reasons for failure

I didn't mean it was truly valid proof... I didn't mean to come off that way. :) Just trying to give the OP an idea of what is possible to achieve if you take care of your car and your turbo. :thumb: I just know people will make crazy claims without any types of numbers to back it up.

I will admit, I got lucky. My first ebay turbo from them was not so lucky it broke within a few days and they were willing to replace it since I told them I was trying to prove the validity of ebay knockoffs.. and it only had 200 miles on it at 14 psi(maybe i should have mentioned that part:hmm:) I wanted to be one of those ebay test dummies back then since nobody else wanted to try them out.. and i was cheap LOL... Then I got a good one the second time around.

I bought my turbo from xspower. I only remember because my manifold that came with it said that on there. Man that was a long time ago. And I only remember my manifold stamp because the manifold cracked at the collector a month later, I had it rewelded and it held up fine after that:D

To the OP: Please don't think I am trying to say they will all last anywhere near that. Most people are even surprised to hear of an original (not rebuilt) 7 bolt motor that has lasted 215k miles especially the way I have driven it.:p

BTW, I know that 99%of people will not get results like that. Even on a real evo3 16g.

wow i wonder how i ran a 15.02 at 99 mph on a good 14b.i guess cause i have a fwd laser rs???

Higher mph means your clutch/tires are not hooking up. So you get more speed but your short game sucks. Hes AWD and your FWD and he probably didnt spin and you did. just the facts of the game. I ran 13.9 at 99mph too.
