A little bit of story, a few pictures, and some "opportunities to improve my car" :)

My crewperson's comments and picture link: http://kate.glmotorsports.net/blog/archive/2005/05/07/755.aspx

My story and car complaints: http://briank.glmotorsports.net/blog/archive/2005/05/07/756.aspx

Short version is that a wonderful day was had by all, even though it rained on the drive there. Mitsubishi was well represented with 2g Eclipses, 3000GT/Stealth, and an Evo. My car has some issues of too high timing at the top end that make me short shift, and not idling. However, stay between 1500 and 7000 rpms and life is good :)

Cool...

Where exactly is this track, and what is it's layout? Does it have a lot of elevation changes etc? What sanctioning body or club is involved with these runs?

Tom

It's located southeast of Cleveland, OH. Not very many elevation changes. The funday events are run by the track itself. If the speed differential is not too huge and there's not tons of cars there, you can end up with as much as 5-6 hours of available track time! There's some track maps (and better yet, link to terraserver) for it at http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/OH/Nelson.html

Looks like an awesome track. What are good lap times there? What were you running? Keep up the good work :thumb:

The fast Evo's with basic mods (exhaust, intake, IC & race tires) see around 1:22's IIRC. I never kept track of my lap times due to my car issues. I was basically shifting by EGT... Not good. Usually meant around 6500-7000 rpms from 3-4 (I have an 8k limiter). The Evo's are a good bit faster than me. If I push it on the straights (let my EGT go to 900+) I can run with them there (despite my gearing disadvantage), but they are definitely better in the corners and absolutely own me in the braking zones.

Record lap time I believe is 57 or 58 seconds... Track's a little over 2 miles long, you do the math ;) ;)

The EVO's are becoming quite the road race cars. Kent Jordan, a student of John Mueller from RRE is burning up the California SCCA organization in ITE class. Because of the stringent SCCA rules the car is kept pretty stock and still is kicking butt taking 3rd overall against faster classes the the ITE group runs with.
My last race at Buttonwillow I was pushing a pretty consistant 8k rpm and running around 1100 EGT's. Car kept strong but I ended up burning the EGT probe...........

I've let mine go as high as 950 before, but usually shift in the 875 to 900 range. No real reason other than always hearing the drag racers talking about the engine exploding if pushed further than that :) Guess there might be a little more headroom than many people think... :)
