AWD DSM or M3?

Which car would be faster all around on a road course? Assuming that the drivers were of equal driver skill and the DSM (1g and or 2g) was slightly modded (to even out the cost difference)?

I know the M3 would rape the DSM at high speed and the DSM would rape the M3 in the 1/4. I hear that bmw's handle very well on the track and I'm curious if a DSM would be able to keep up.

i would have to say the m3 for numerous reasons . . .

1) in the true spirit of racing, RWD is ideal because 4WD promotes understeer.
2) m3's computer is so smart it makes any driver better just for sitting in it.
3) m3's suspension is so superior i dont think an upgraded gsx's suspension could even match.
4) m3 doesn't have turbo lag and comes with a 6 speed tranny.

What year m3 are we talking about anyway? Because unless we're talking about the new ones, most of what i've said can be thrown out the window.

even if we are talking about a 95-99 m3, the suspension is far superior to a DSM, and weighing 200-300lbs less than a new m3, the old one can pull similar times even without the super computer...

so yes either m3 will smoke and awd around a track, even if it had more power... although i have no idea what kinda times a dsm with suped up sespensions could pull.... uh id like to know... any1 know?

I was referring to the E36 M3.. 95-99..

So even a GSX with the ideal suspension setup ($2000?) and some performance mods...couldn't keep up with a M3? ouch..

where's all the DSM autocross/track junkies to put in some opinions?!?!!?!

BMWs are know problem for me on a track. Yes it takes a high dollar suspension and other modifications to make my DSM competetive, so it's sort of a put up or shut up ideology if you want to road race and win.......................
