Launching in 2nd

My friend Romel has the same problem. He launches in second gear, but you better have a strong clutch and tranny.

Yes, launching in second is fine, but usually only for high powered cars that spin too hard in first. Since you have no first gear, you have no choice, but I would be careful of launching at too high of an rpm. You are AWD and the chances of you spinning the clutch are much higher launching in 2nd since the car will hook dead.

If your car can't stay in gear, I would seriously reconsider racing it. If it's in that poor of shape, how well do you think it's going to stay together?

And, in an AWD, you can bog it easy enough in first gear. In second gear, it's going to be much worse.

well i have been driving my car this way for over 6 months now... and havent had any problems... and it doesnt bog at all when i drive this way. Its not going to fall apart. its just the 1st gear syncros. i just havent had enough time or money to get a new tranny yet. But thanks for the advice anyways... i probably wont be running it until next spring anyways.

...what do you mean by hook dead...?...

;) It's a street racer's term for launching without any wheelspin, and is used for a car that launches really hard. "That car hooks dead and leaves on the bump."

Regards,

what do you mean its the synchro's?? they have nothing to do with the tranny staying in gear.

now if there is a serious problem with it not wanting to go into second then its possible that you may have a synchro issue. otherwise i'd get that tranny looked at immediately because whatever you either sheered or ground off is now turning you tranny fluid into that sparkly nail polish and is slowly destroying the bearings and seals throughout it.

needless to say i wouldn't race my car ever if my tranny was acting up this bad.

thats what the shop i took it to said.. so im not going to rip apart my only car to see if it is or not... i will just buy a new tranny in the winter...it still drives fine as it is...just cant use 1st
