Ok Folks, I am visiting from Georgia (I'm in the Army and stationed there :( ) and staying with a buddy that moved up to Colorado Springs, and about 8 months ago he asked me if I knew about Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Needless to say, 8 months later I am up here in Colorado Springs and I can officially say...

I HATE YOU!!!! :nono:

Colorado Springs is awesome, and I know there are tons of fellow DSM'ers out here because we have cruised around. But I digress!! I apologize.:ohdamn:

I am up here for the hill climb on Sunday, and we drove to the Peak today. We are planning on heading up nice and early to get a spot on the Devil's Playground for race day. I seriously am envious of every DSM'er in the area because of the hills, mountains, turns, and amazing beauty out here! I will do my best to take pictures of the race and upload them for everyone's viewing pleasure that were not lucky enough to get up here!!:hellyeah:

That's a great race, enjoy. I remember shortly after buying my first new Talon in 1991
Eagle had a factory team in the hill climb. They packed the intercooler with dry ice and made a respectable time for a stock car. If I can find a link to the race today I will post here.

My Talon loves climbing hills. See the avatar to the left.

Welcome to town! It's not too bad out here :)

Did you come downtown to see the cars last night? The AMS Evo was pretty sweet :thumb: Couple of nice looking Subies, too, if you're into that kind of thing LOL.

No, we didnt know that they were all going to be on display or we would have been there!!:banghead:

We figure that getting in line by 3am, we should be able to get a good spot to get some pictures. We only have two cameras and small memory cards though. :( Do you know if they will have all the vehicles in one place again after the race?

I'm pretty sure they all stay at the top after they run. There's a big parking lot up there, and of course there's only one way up/down. IDK if you'll be able to get up there after the race to see them though. Maybe you could hang out while they all come back down aftewards to get some shots, while they are going a lot slower.

PS - Forgot to ask if your friend has ever been up to see the race? If not, you both ought to be ready for ANY kind of weather up there. Temps can range from 90*+ in full sun to freezing at night (depending on how high up you camp), atmospheric conditions from crystal clear skies to gale force winds/hail/thunderstorms/ even snow are possible in the same day. Just be ready for damn near any weather and you'll be set. Last time I drove up in the summer I started in full sun 85* day and had to turn around at Devil's Playground due to a hail/whiteout condition (had the roof off the truck too...good times LOL).

The weather forcast for the peak looks to be sunny in the morning, cloudy with a slight chance of rain in the afternoon.

We talked to a guy with a 1g AWD on the summit who's been going to the race every year since the early 80's, and he said the award ceremony was at the bottom. I can't find any info on whats gonna happen, only that I need to be one of the first out of the parking lot. LOL
