Okay, so recently I've picked up a 1992 N/A 4g63 Talon. Everything is absolutely wonderful about the car interior wise minus a backseat, and the hydrolics are out on the hatch. Exterior I'm not so much concerned with at the moment, even though the paint job is terrible and also not up to my taste.

The engine, however, has some problems. The person I picked it up from is somewhat ignorant about cars, and has a long history of owning projects for a month or two, and getting frustrated and selling them quickly. The supposed story is that the first owner drove the car and maintained it for it's 140k miles on the odometer, with replacing a clutch about 3k miles ago, and about 10k miles ago rebuilding the head. One day something happened, and an oil line broke or somesh*t and he ended up running the machine dry.

After taking it to a shop, and getting the line replaced and fixing the car, he drove it for a few more thousand miles, and parked it for a few months, to do this fantastic home done paintjob including bright colors and those wonderful flames with skulls that add so much hp. Then he needed some fast cash, sold the car to the person I got it from, who let it sit for a few more months, intending to do the 4g63t swap with the mitsubishi stamp, but never got around to it.

Long story short, the engine is currently seized, and the previous owner tells me that one of his friends said the rods were bent. I honestly don't trust his or his friends opinion, but was wondering if it would be worth buying a lot of royal purple and lucas to unseize the engine, or if I should just buy one of the 3 4g63's running around here and slap that in. I'm also fairly confident that I could rebuild this engine, but figured I'd enlist the opinions of some experienced DSM enthusiasts before I decide what to do to tackle this project.

Thanks for any help you guys can give, and any info on where to get parts in the Prescott area would be great.

if the engine is seized, it would be cheaper in the long run to just pick up another used engine. plenty out there can be had cheap

Thanks. Some friends and I were thinking of doing the regular swap, and then rebuilding the old one and upgrading it to a 4g63t while I upgraded the fuel pump and got a ECU off of a turbo talon.

Sounds like that's probably what we'll end up doing.

Oh most definately.

As soon as I get the Talon running and primered I intend to show up at one of the DSM meets and try to meet as many people as I can learn from.

One of my friends brothers used to have one of the old 1g's with the popup headlights with the 4g63t and the thing was gnarly fast. This thing has a load of potential and I've always been a fan of how Talon/Laser/Eclypse's look.

Hopefully this project turns out as expected, and I become the owner of one mean DSM machine.

The swap isn't as easy as it sounds. A member on here did the correct way and said he would never do it again. PM Mavisky if you are a glutton for punishment. It is much easier to pick up a turbo car from the get go then to do the swap. If you are really attached to the car, I hope not, then just rebuild the engine as the current one doesn't even sound worth messing with.

I guess im biased cause i thought the turbo swap was simple . You can use a n/t engine and tranny ang get a turbo ecu, all turbo components , ballast resistor box for the injectors and what ever intercooler your going to use. also a turbo oilpan. add a wire for kknock sensor, and 1 wire for the maf and your all set. I have done 3 n/t converions and it seems that if you have your car tuned right it will last . I have personally run 22 psi on a 16g with a STOCK n/t motor and was waay faster than an equally modded turbo . Most will tell you that the n/t pistons are weaker, i dont think so there about the same . If you have the resources I say do it. If you need help let me know. I will show you in person what a n/t conversion runs like.
