So I bought a 95 gst and I need to use the motor as I got a 98 gst shell. The 95 shell is trash. Anyways what do I have to do to put the 95 motor in the 98 shell?

1. Can I just cut the 95 Cas plug and solder it to the 98 harness? Also swap firing order?

2. Just buy a 98 cam and cas and use them on the 95 motor?

Will both these methods work?

Also how do I tell the cams apart from 95-99

I would do option 1 as the easiest. You could use the 2gb sensor but you will need the 2gb intake cam as its drilled and tapped for the tone/trigger wheel bolted to the end or drill the 2ga intake cam. If you choose to use the 2ga sensor you will for sure have to swap the plug wires and change pins in the ECU, also have to use the 2ga intake cam gear. All 2g cams are the same lift and duration but the 2ga intake cam is not drilled for the trigger wheel that the 2gb uses. The 2ga intake cam gear is also different as its trigger plate is attached to the cam gear itself. The 2gb cam gears are booth the same. In short both methods would work. I know you already understood the different methods but hope this would help someone else searching who doesnt know.

What do you mean change pins? Don't I only solder the 95 plug on the 98 harness and swap firing order at the coilpack?

If I did method 2 do I just put a 98 cam in there with a 98 cas?

Also which cams are different? Are 97-99 the same and 95-96 the same?

I swapped a 95 motor into my 99 gst. I cut the plug I needed from a junkyard and soldered it on. Firing order changes to 3-2-4-1 if I remember right. But it fired right up and it's still running. Although I do have a bogging issue but I doubt it has to do anything with the cas.

All cam cores are the same across all years; there's no difference in the intake cam of any year 4G63 as far as being able to accept a CAS trigger goes.
FWIW, the 95 CAS signal is different from other years ; if you're putting it in the '98, I'd use the 98 CAS.

The 95-96 intake cams need to be drilled and tapped for the trigger wheel the 2gb sensor uses. The slot is there but no hole for the trigger wheel bolt. As for swapping injector pins here is some info.

I just checked out a set of 95 cams and a set of 97 cams I have in the shop ; you're correct ; the 95 doesn't have the small tapped hole down the center. I just assumed it was there since the divet is that would accept any other style CAS, and that there aren't year specific options when you order aftermarket cams. I guess all of the aftermarket cams must have that tapped hole in them already?

My HKS intake cam had to be drilled and tapped for the 2gb trigger wheel. It even states it on their website. Not sure on other aftermarket cams.

You don't have to swap any pins on the ecu. Just solder in the plug for the 95 cas and swap the plug wires, or use the 95-96 ecu. The injector firing order won't have to be changed like when doing a 1g cas, because you are still using the crank sensor.
