Question

Why is it smoking

Bought a 95 eclipse Gsx and it smokes bad when it's cold and also while driving at all times. The smoke has a bluish tint. I wanted to see if you guys can tell me all the different reasons why it could be doing this, thank you in advance.

Well with it being a bluish tint that would mean that you are burning oil. Do a compression test! Also check your turbo for any signs of a leak.

Well I was thinking about just trying to use a can of restore on the engine along with changing the oil with Mobil 1 synthetic, is that good or bad for the car?

I have always heard that you're not supposed to use any oil additives in a turbo car. I believe there's an article by Forced Performance all about oil and additives.

If your burning oil why would you put something that costs 3x as much in. that is literally burning money.

Fix the problem first. changing oil isnt the fix.

Just looking for a cheap fix and I'm not absolutely sure what the problem is or if it's burning oil.

do a compression test as already stated and it will help diagnose the issue.

most likely the issue is going to be rings or the turbo since your getting smoke all the time. smoke after idle would be vss usually.

blueish smoke is oil being burnt
white billowing smoke is burning coolant

I would pull your intake pipe and check for shaft play first. If the turbo has alot of up and down shaft play then your turbo is probably junk. If you pull the intake and there is heavy oil residue then its a given that your turbo is bad. It could also have a bad seal on the hot side of the turbo but the only real way to tell that is to pull the turbo.. i would still do a compression check though to rule out bad rings before pulling the turbo. You can rent a compression guage setup for your car at advance auto or autozone for cheap and you get your money back when you return it.
