I have been wanting to improve the shifter.I have the solid bushings at the trans.I have solid bushings at the shifter plate and heim joints at the shifter cable.Today I went down to the hardware store and picked up 2 bronze bushing
1/2" id by 5/8" od by15/16" long
I chuck them on the lath and fit them to fit the shifter
about .610" od and .505 " id
I still had a little more here and there to make them fit.
What a difference the bushing made in the shifting.
Next week I will make the other shifter bushing

Holy crap, I just did something VERY similar. I picked up some 2" tall bronze bushings and some stainless hardware to put the shifter a little closer to the steering wheel. Great, cheap upgrade.

I did the same and what a difference it made. Glad to see someone else doing this.

I put the 2" tall bronze bushings underneath my shifter base plate then kept the symborski kit as is, "sandwiching" the base. I have a short shifter and it seemed a little low and uncomfortable for my tastes. The bushings raised the shifter closer to the steering wheel, always a plus for road racing. I'll get some pics up when I get out of work.

I took some photos last night. The bushing I made go to the shift lever not the shifter base. I feel they made a better shifter than all the other modds I made on the shifter

Ohhh, so you put the bushing at the moment/pivot itself? Yeah, I put them under the base to raise the whole assembly up. I was thinking of how to accomplish what you did as well.
