we bought a 90 gs turbo for a project car.well it has a bottom end knock when we bought it last week.after going through the motor we had to replace the following from the massive oil leaks.

front cover gasket
balance shaft seal
oil drive gear seal
crank seal
oil filter housing gasket
valve cover gasket
and cam seals

the knocking noise sounded like a rod bearing for sure so we put new ones in and after firing it up it still has this knocking sound.its a little at idle and gets louder with engine rpm.if you pull the # 3 and 4 plug wire off while running the knock is gone.

BALANCE SHAFT BEARING?
WRIST PIN?

IDEAS ARE 100% WELCOME

yup, is it coming from the head? warn rocker arms will surely make a knocking noise, from the bottom end, piston ring lands, It's hard to believe that it's not the rod bearings though. Good luck. chris:thumb:

hows your oil pressure at idle or do you have any when i rebuilt mine i had an oiler come out and i lost all oil pressure which caused a rod nock and spun a rod bearing

I doubt it's a tensioner or a balance shaft bearing, because if it was the sound wouldn't go away when he pulled the plug wires out.

You can just swap bearings when your getting rod knock...

If you want to do it right find an uncut stock crank, then put in new bearings and maybe even some different rods.

If you need any parts PM me, I know somebody who has some.

well i know its not the b-s bearing and it has to be the wrist pin.the rod bearings did not look to bad so after putting in new ones it did not help the knock problem.this is the only thing left it can be has anyone else had a problem with a wrist pin?
