I was just wondering how much boost was the max you can push on a 50 trim before the head became inefficiant on a stock 2G head and block with proper supporting mods.

That depends on what your defination of a supporting mod is.

If you mean say 650cc injectors, the 50trim will never be innifficient before that.

Around 20+psi of boost is when you want cams because you will see huge gains in power at that level. At 26psi of boost on race gas you should make well into the 400hp level then your supporting mods will be Rods and Pistons.

Does that answer your question?

I ran 22PSI with 264/272 cams and made 395whp on an otherwise stock 2g motor. I stopped at that point out of the fear of the weak 2g rods.

the sweet spot of the 50 trim is theoretically in the mid 20s depending on the car and it's setup..

i've seen people get great results running as high as 30PSI though.. just play with it and see what works best at the track

Running that much boost is not a "trial and error" process. DO NOT jsut go to the track and play with boost, etc. Tune it beforehand. Buyt yea the 50trim will be a good choice. 22PSI seems to be the happy area for pump gas.

is it absolutly nessesary to run a external gate with a 50 trim ... say i had some serious porting and a 38mm internal waste gate (extremepsi.com)...

no, not at all.

would i be fine... with boost creep in mind .... boosting to ...say 20 pounds? internally gated and a good port job

I have an internal gate on a 50 trim....runs good, a external is not 100% necassary but it might be nice.

1gctgsx.... what exhaust mods do you have? and what kinda boost levels are you running with stock injectors?
