Calgary,
I was driving in my car and revved it hard....7000 rpm, and all of a sudden I lost all boost. My turbo is making a loud vacuum cleaner type noise. There is oil leaking down from the turbo, it's all over the compressor housing and the wastegate actuator. The car runs fine, but there's no boost. Did the shaft/bearings on the turbo break? Thanks guys

Boost leak, same thing happened to me when i missed 4th (bad tranny) and i revved to 7500. My BISS (Base Idle Set Screw) on the throttle body popped out :( Easy Fix. Just look around ur intake components. You could have a IC pipe that popped off. Good Luck

it does sound more like a grinding noise to me, it's definetly not a regular turbo noise, but I suppose that could be because boost is leaking a lot somewhere? Any thoughts? There is also oil on the compressor and wastegate that wasn't there before?

Without pictures, by saying you have oil blowthrough, then i would say its a turbo.

Agreed.
I think its your turbo just went out on you bro. That sound you probably heard is the housing and blade rubbing each other. Take off your intake and try to move the wheel itself, if it moves you got major problems.

Look for a new turbo (slowboy, or another vendor) and get ready to upgrade!!!

Thanks guys, i thought so too. Anyways, i just picked a replacement used 14b up off of ebay for 170 bucks. I was looking into 16Gs but I didn't know if I needed any other stuff, fuel pump, etc, so i decided against it for now. Would I need a fuel pump/injectors/other mods if I updgrade to a 16g?
