major or minor problem?

Wheen i crank my car, i can smell oil burning.. If i let it sit for a couple of minutes, a little light blue smoke comes from the exhaust.. I then get in it and tap the gas and a big puff if light blue smoke.If i am driving the car it wont smoke, but if i let it sit for a few minutes, same results.. I have changed my oil religiously at every 3000 miles or sometimes when the oil is black(before 3000miles). I took it to a local mechanic, he says it could be two things,1. damaged valve guides or 2. or the valve stem seals.. What do u guys think.. And what should i do??

Could be your vavles or your turbo might be going bad, or your ring's could be going as well.

Most likely not your rings but it could be a couple of things and the only way to find out is to repair the best probable cause, and see if that was the problem.

the turbo has 10000 miles on it barely.. I doubt the rings are the problem, because it doesnt smoke while i am driving it..

Your gonna have to see what your mechanic say's, but you are still going to have to tear something apart to fix the problem.

could be a head gasket, or rings are bad, some how there is oil getting into the cylinders, could also be coolant, because i think blue smoke is coolant, white some is oil. But there is deffinetly oil or coolant in the cylinders. I had the same problem about a year ago, costly fix. See if u can smell somthing back by the exhaust outlet. Let me know what it smells like. A sweet smell is usually coolant.

one more thing, there are seals on the valves and if those leak they leak oil into the cylinders.
