Ive been trying to get my crank sprocket off for the last hour with no progress. The timing belt is still on but the balance shaft belt is broken. Im replacing the timing belt and removing the shafts so thats why im in the position im in. Ive tried wedging the gears so they dont move which works, but the belt slips :p Ive searched the forums and havent really seen anything i havent tried..anyone have any ideas how to get this damn thing off? the motor is out of the car and i have no air tools :)

I'm confused. What are you trying to get off? The big bolt that holds the sprocket on?

You need to have the timing belt off to take that off, first of all.

There are two good ways to do it. One is fabriacate a strap so that you can bolt the flywheel to the block, the tranny mount holes are a good spot. That way, the flywheel doesn't spin, and you can undo the bolt.

Or pull the oil pan and put a big screwdriver or something so that the crank can't turn.

IF THE engine were in the car, you could just put your breaker bar on there and hit the starter for split second....that always works. try an impact if you have one available.. or hold the flywheel with a big wrench or bar on a bolt and use a breaker bar on teh crank pulley bolt.
