Dude, your post is barely readable. LEARN ABOUT COMMAS, PLEASE.

If you port you exhaust manifold, um, how will that effect how it looks?

Maybe you need to sell him that mad powa T4.

I'll port the outside of the turbine housing for him as an added bonus.

BTW, they arrived today, look good. Thanks.

Josh what crack were you smoking when you were struck with that bright idea?

I was more interested in the other stuff. I thought the thing would at least be good for a turbine housing core too. Of course it was made before they stamped the A/R into the housing so... The rest of it is a decent setup, gate dumps back into the DP and everything. Eventually I'll replace the Delta with TiAL.

Oh ok so you got EVERYTHING in the picture. I thought you just bought the turbo and I was going WTF? I'd definetly replace the deltagate, it's not a question of IF it will fail, just when. I hate those things with a passion.

In two years of being on DSM message boards, I have NEVER heard of anything bad happening due to the removal of the heat shields. Except today, from GRNDSM.

Heat shields don't keep temps down, they keep you from burning up anything that may come into contact with something extremely hot.
Do whatever you want with them.

I'd keep it on just to reduce under hood temps. Even if I added ceramic coating to all exhaust parts, i'd still keep the shields on there. I've melted my lower ic pipe coupling that's closest to my exhaust. When taking off the coupling, chunks of it were melted onto my lower ic pipe.

I love my exhaust wrap (although Z1500 hates it)..... I notice a difference in intake / underhood temps with it on.

Kevin, when you want to work on a cold air intake? :D

dudes, sorry about the spelling, yeah the later it gets the worse i spell. and if i port it(on the inside) i also might smoth out the outside, and put a coating on it, so i want to see it

2 years? You must be a newbie :).

You could not be more wrong… They greatly reduce underhood temps especially around the exhaust manifold. Removing the heat shield and engine lifting bracket (in the right upper corner of the manifold) can cause a melted timing belt cover. I have done it a couple of time and have seen many others do it as well.

This is even bigger problem on 2g’s, which have plastic AC fans. Those tend to melt pretty easy.

This does not happen on every car, it depends of several other factors (like EGT of your particular car). But when it happens to your it really sucks…

damn i guess i ll leve those on

hmm too bad i like the look of expsed headers,

You can get a brand new heat sheild from the dealer, and it can look, almost respectable.

you could always paint a racing stripe on the heat sheild hehe.. that would look tits..... j/k

my car came without a heat shield. i have no trouble, but i do really need to get one....why....less heat = more HP
leave the shield on

Not only do heat shields keep underhood temps down, but they also help retain heat in the exhaust where it belongs. Keeping the exhaust system hot helps maintain velocity. The heat shield keeps it hot where you want it hot, and keeps its surroundings cooler. Just sand them down and re-paint them if you want looks. Very few paints will hold, so you are better off getting new ones if you are that worried about appearance.
