Installed Safcii And The Rpms Are Not Correct

I just installed a SAFCII in my 91 Eagle Talon TSI and the rpms are reading way too low. While idling they are at 300 rpms and at 7,000 it is only reading 2400 rpms. I have rechecked the wires to make sure I have them hooked up correctly and they are as fas as I can tell. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have the number of cylinders set wrong.

Try changing the number of cylinders to 2 and see what happens. On some older DSM's it needs it to be set at 2 in order to get a proper reading.

When i installed my SAFCI i ran into the same problem. For me the quick fix was to set the afc to 2cylinder vehicle. This is because the rpm wire reads off of your ignition apparently and since our coil packs are set up to 2cylinders at a time the afc sees the car firing only 2coil packs opposed to some vehicles having 1per cyl. As far as the afc I instrucitons, there was a revision as to using a differnt pin connector for your rpm source witch would then allow you to set your car to 4cyl. I thought that they would have used the revised edition for the SAFCII instructions. If you need to know the pin connector i'll look for it but you can leave it on 2cyl prob and it'll be fine. This is just based on my similar experience with my SAFC I install.

on my 91 i had to set it to 4 instead of 2?
