I searched and couldn't find an answer to a specific question, so I guess I'll ask it here:

California DSM'ers, are external WG's illegal by their very existence, ("No modifying the exhaust system ahead of the catcon") or is just that it's illegal to dump, (obviously) whether it's from an internal or external gate? I seem to remember Tom Stangl making a big deal out of wanting an internal WG because he lived in CA, but when I look at people's profiles, I notice that many Californians run external gates, anyway. Are you guys just getting away with it, or...?

I dunno but anything I did out there id be sure to get a freaking carb sticker put on it...

Unless know someone that will pass you, stay away from external dumps for sure. It is illegal to have an external WG however, shops that don't know what they're doing will let the external wastegate pass. Both mods are illegal.

yeah it sucks here in cali im going external dump :shhh: in a couple of weeks lets just hope i get away with it for a while.

On this same topic, have you guys ever seen an external WG setup that was difficult to see from the top of the engine? Is this possible??

You could probably get away with one mounted on the O2 housing especially if you cover it with a heat shield or some type of wrap.

I have mine mounted on the o2 housing and it is recirculated into the exhaust piping. I had a o2 dump on my old setup but they sound like crap. There is a pic of mine here. A local performance shop made it for me.

It is completely stainless and hand made.

KInda off topic...but that unit is SWWEEEETTTTT:thumb:

That 02 housing is crazy, I want one. I bet that would be easy to hide with heat shielding too.

I am starting to rethink my turbo choice...

Farting in your Cars general direction is illegal in Cali.

so yes, everything is illegal. Don't even think of looking at your car the wrong way either, that's a 10 dollar fix it ticket. :thumb:

:thumbdown = Cali Laws.

Mike, Im not sure what type of turbo you are going with but internal w/g's work pretty well, and are a great choioce for living in california and not having to try to get away with anything (what happens if you don't?).

Personally I wouldn't want a tial dumping so close back into the o2 housing liek that settup... rather farther downstream. Anyhow, if you can hide that type of external gate setup then you can have anything, just don't open her up near any 5-0's...

Well, I'm actually waiting for an internally-gated BB turbo that proves itself to be the equal of the Green. So far, I'm less than impressed with the results people are getting on pump gas, so I'm holding out until I see some good results. The FP2544 sounds interesting, but at 44 lb/min, it isn't going to bridge the gap to the 50 Trim no matter how efficient it is. All I want is a BB Green. :)

sorry to hyjack the thread, but what is the disadvantage of having the wastegate re-routed so close?
