I have a 95 talon and thinking about swapping the engine for a 6 bolt. My goal is low 11's - high to mid 10's. Would it be cheaper to buy one from say buschurrang.com which is about $5,000? Or buying a used 6 bolt for say $1000 or so, and putting in all the parts.

And if I went the second option how much would the parts be for both the top and bottom ends of the motor when wanting a high 10 sec car. Also how long would it take for some one to rebuild the engine, if that person knew what he was doing?

And one last thing if I were to buy a 6 bolt with every thing done how much am I looking at and where can I get it?

thanks

i am in the middle of a 6 bolt swap. I have a rebuilt 6 bolt from faster than you. It can handle 800hp, it is $2300. I am going to be pushing about 400whp, in the mid 11's. The total sawp is costing almost 8 grand. You will need alot more mods then a motor though. Bigger turbo, front munt intercooler, clutch, flyhweel, bigger injectors, fuel pump, tuning software, better motor mounts, 3" exhaust. Port and polish head. All those mods plus alot more is costing me almost 8 grand. Not to mention you will need to get a first gen CAS and rewire some stuff. Not to hard of a swap if you know what you doing.

on the dsm parts site go to the tuning guide, it will tell you what you need to do to achieve your goal. Best of luck man.

haha right, they can handle 350hp tops. Dont be fooled. Add more than 350hp to a stock 6 bolt and have a tow companys phone # handy.

I agree with boostinawd just get a long block from the junk yard and rebuild it yourself if you have the time. you can do it is you or someone you know is mechanicly incline. and just do alot of resurch on the whole process could save some cheeze when it come doen to the line.
I am doing one right now and so far I have spent
600 longblock
500 for port and poiish head
250 for pistons and rods
200 for random junk needed got a couple of things left but I don't think I will hit 8000
hope this helps

Have it handy but don't expect to use it because a stock 6 bolt can take over 400whp stock and with a head gasket and ARP head studs they can take more then that.

Please, do a little research. The 6-bolt 4G63 can easily take more than 350 to the wheels. One of the guys from Team NABR put 471 to the wheels on a stock bottom end. I'd be more worried about floating a valve rather than the bottom end giving out.

So about how long will it take to rebuild the 6 bolt?

And is there any other reason other than crank walk to rebuild my 7 bolt and save some money. One other thing is it possible for every 7 bolt to get crank walk or is it 50% yes or 50% no forever. And will I get crank walk if I put say 600 to 700 horses to the 7 bolt.

Thank god you told me that. I will go tell the half dozen or so cars locally that are running well over 400 on stock 6-bolt blocks (and some even on, dare I say it, stock 7-bolt blocks) that their engines are GOING TO EXPLODE and they should dump 8k into a rebuild before driving it even 1 more mile.

just going by what ive read and seen and heard. I guess you can use a stock 6 bolt. But rebuilding will give u a little extra insurance. If you have the money like i do of course. If you dont have the money, have fun with another swap in 50,000 miles.

by the way quick question for BOOSTINAWD.....how are you only running 14's with those mods?? Ive seen guys with less mods in the 13's and only running 15psi of boost tuned properly....hope you have it tuned right, AFC, data logger or something man.

I ran that almost 2 years ago, when all I had was a custom 3inch exhaust, k&n with 17psi.

Oh btw my engine had 179,000 miles on it when I ran that, my belts squeeled the whole way to the staging lanes I was leakin oil so badly.
All my seals were pretty much shot.

I have changed alot since then, too bad I keep running into little problems like bent clutch levers that keep me from running it.

No need to try and diss me here....

i'm in the mid of doin a 6 bolt also. you can get a bare block usually for a couple hundred bux and i wouldnt spend more then 600 a 6 bolt complete bottom end. if your gonna just use it stock you mine as well get new bearings and rings and if your gonna do that you mine as well hone the cylinder walls and if your gonna do that you mine as well have your crank machined. you start getting very involved. pisotns/rods are 800$ and bearings are like 200$ at most (more like 150$) machine work shouldnt be more then 400$ and assembly shouldnt be more then 400$ add in a new oil pump for 250$ and rear main seal, metal hg and arp studs and thast about 200$

FACT I YOU CAN DEF DO THE WHOLE MOTOR FOR UNDER 3000$.

good luck. steve

Whatever you do ,do not spend any more money than what a "brand new jdm engine" from a junkyard would cost ! That engine is capable of 400+ HP and it got in the junkyard because the previous owner got scared when the engine was getting more powerful than it used to be when it got out of the assembly lane . But that's OK cause you can"rebuild" it yourself and get in the 10's for no more than a set of neon's would cost and which you will definitely need to have in order to get in the 10's.

All you guys who are "helping" this guy out should share with us what is that really good shit you're smoking.

Get a junkyard 6 bolt. I Put down 497whp with a stock 6 bolt, fresh stock HG and ARP's. I see no reason for a built motor, but if you do decide on getting a block built, I hear SBR does some good work and have great prices.

I just finished my 6 bolt swap...it was a pain in the a@#. For reference dont have 1gNA parts laying around i was so ticked on missing water lines then realized I had the NA on there. I am running JE's and eagle's in my bottom end. And full crower top end and all arp faseners. My block ran me 300 from calf. and all performance parts ran me-1900 then on top that I had 600 for boring the block, honing it, line boring, and balancing. Plus stock parts like the water pump and oil pump run you 300, then all gaskets. I have 3g+ into my motor alone and i have gone through so much of a head ach mainly just cuz of geting everything. I say buy one built with a warrenty!!!!!!!!
