replacing main bearing seal?

what all is involved and how hard is it to replace? am i really gonna need to rip out the timing belt i just put in or what can i do?

if you're certain that you have to replace it then yes you will have to remove your timing belt as well as the rest of the crank pulley parts. i can't remember off-hand if the seal goes in from teh front or the back, but i'm pretty sure its from the front. that will save you pulling your front case off at least. have fun though, it should be a fun time .

the shop was talking about a main seal. it was leaking ALLLLLL over

it was spitting out behind the crank pulley i think

Rear main seal is on the flywheel side. Are you talking about the front case seal?

i'll call em tomorrow and ask him. i remember seeing oil dripping from around the crank pulley and him saying a seal is messed up..... i didn't change it when i put the t-belt on

ahh you didn't replace the oil pump seal or the front crankshaft seal. Very cheap to fix, but very time consuming if that's ALL you gotta do. Next time, read the VFAQ!!!!

yep, i thought i had everything but i guess not

it ran for the first time in about 11 months today though!!!!!!!

it made me remember how much i loved the car

could it be leaking because the oil was near a year old (about 200 miles old though) and had some heavy stuff in there from not being "swished around" in there? it slowed down leaking alot so that was another thought i was dreaming up
