I have been quoted 2grand for removing the block, replacing the pistons and rings, machining everything including boring and honing and decking the block. This would include all parts and labor is this a reasonable price or am i getting hosed. They will be using wiseco pistons.

Also should I go ahead and have it bored .020 over while Im at it or is there a downside to doing it.

that sounds like a decent price if they are going to remove the engine and everyting, will they be re-installing it aswell?

there is no downside to over-bore. there is however an upside, increased power.. you might aswell go ahead and go .040 over.

Only downside of boring I can think of is if they screw up the assembly and you need to re-bore it again. In that case if you had .40 over bore it might make it more difficult to match pistons back up.

then you buy a new block. but if you take the engine out you could save yourself alot of money. then get a rebuild kit from slowboyracing or machv for 500-550 and then go to a maching shop and get the bore work and head done(resurfaced and reseated valves) you could save youself a lot of money. and the machine shops will assemble short block for a little bit of money. and engine build up is something you should do a lot of research on and make sure its a reputable shop.

Sounds like a hose job to me. Hell for $1500, you can get an assembled 2.3L stroker using reman'd polished crank, new eagle rods, new wiseco pistons, F/M bearings. That includes the hot tank, boring, honing, the works.

But that's assuming you have the motor out of the car. Still, paying $400 for pistons, $3-500 in machine work, that leaves $1100-1300 in labor? i dont think so.

I just got some 1g rods and am probably going with the ross pistons with the .o40 over. Would there be a downside to going with the 9:1 vs the 8.5:1 compression. As long as its properly tuned wouldnt I be alright.

I talked to the shop that put the first gen head back on. They said that the book calls for 28hours to remove the engine, dissasemble the block for the machine shopa and put it back in. They said they would only charge me 20 hours at 80per hour which would be 1600 just for the labor. Id also have to pay for the pistons and the machine work on the block. Sounds like its going to be closer to 2500 at least to get it road worthy. Im not overly excited about this.

Im half tempted to buy a hoist from Costco for 200 bucks to remove it myself.

I hope this is on a six bolt motor, because once you disassemble that 95+ model 7 bolt, there's no telling what those crazy bearings are going to do.

There would be no way in hell I'd pay $2k for some monkeys to pull my motor and install some pistons. Just do it your self and save about $1500. Just do your homework on it and you'll probably end up doing a better job than those grease monkeys ever could =-)

im in the last few days of my rebuild here....

It wasnt really cheap but i didnt want to cut corners.

Junk Yard Block: 150
Ross/Eagle combo: 600
Gaskets/seals: 30
Machine work: 383 (bore, hone, deck, tank, balance/micropolish crank)
Clevite Bearings: 100
oem headgasket: $37
Paint and Parts cleaner: $20

Thats about 1320 and a lota time.

That stroker kit doesnt take into account the gaskets/front case.

Though if I had known about that kit ahead of time, id probably have gotten it. Oh well.

Wow that kit looks great. What does everyone else think about this kit. My motor is blown right now so I am either replacing it with a used or reman for any where from $700. for a used low mileage motor to like $1500-$2000 for the stroker.

What would you guys do? Is there any thing else you would replace at this time? Is there a better kit then the above link?

What vehicles have the 2.4L 6 bolt in them. I have seen galant engines with the 2.4 but I dont know whether they are 6 bolt or 7bolt.
