I was just wondering if there is any way to remove my cruise control. All of my buddies drive honda's i'm one of only three dsmers in our car club (i'm original haha) and they all have gotten noticeable power gains from removing their cruise controls. I was looking at mine and it looks like the throttle is connected directly to the cruise control where as in a honda the cruise control is hooked to the throttle body. They just cut the cable and remove the cruise control box. I've seen a couple of talon's without cruise control but never asked how it was done. I'm in the process of swaping my motor out i have a seized piston soooo any help soon would be nice so that i can just take care of this now while everything is nice and accesible.

You won't notice any power gain from removing cruise.

You can buy a non-cruise control throttle cable and swap it out with yours, removing the cc box and cables. I guess you would save 5 pounds in weight, but that is about it.

Exactly what he said

Don't be silly and assume anyone will make "noticable" gains from removing a cable and box...maybe even a little computer under the dash (honda's).

You might as well keep it dude, cause when that long trip comes up, it becomes a very nice amenity. TAking it out will prolly mean you wil either damage it or store it somewhere that will get it damaged, or even throw it away: which isn't worth it considering it doesnt help to take it out. I can see for cleanliness of the engine bay (which is why i removed mine from my Talon) , but i regretted it.

If you do take it out, dont buy a non cruise cable. just remove the cruise box and cable from the TB plate, unplug it and be done. Keep it somewhere where you can put it back in later :thumb:

I have no idea how they got noticable powergains from that, maybe they are too weak to press on the pedal or something and buy taking of the second cable it makes it easier for them?

I work on Honda's all day and unless they were not getting 100% throttle at WOT then it's impossible to get a gain from removing the cruise. What type of honda is this that they did it in? If it's anything with a B or H series motor then it's just that they re-adjusted the cable to make the throttle body open 100% and that is where the gain came from, which is entirely possible...:)

Yeah they were all b-series motors, i have no i dea why you can feel it but you definetly can i've driven my friends si both with and without cruise and there is definetly a difference. Also they have their power steering removed which also adds noticble power and the rpm's jump like crazy too. I'm thinking bout taking mine out cause at high speeds its nicer to have stiff steering.

Do it dude...just pull the lines off the rack to get rid of your power steering and cut yoru cruise control cable and watch the power/rpm's jump... :thumb:

its a freakin honda ofcourse they need to get rid of everything. your car is like double their so dont worry about it.

best comment of the day. thank you. :thumb:

i could walk up to any random civic owner and tell them i just changed their valve stem caps and they would claim noticeable power increases

Hehe

Oh on SI, it was known all along you need to adjust the throtle because it doesn't open all the way, the cruise control had nothing to do with it!!! Go read on clubsi.com if I remember right
who cares those cars suck anyways you spend 15grand on a stupid si, I spend 15 grand on getting a 1g dsm I think I will be half way down the track while the civic will be spinning it's wheels trying to be cool

You no longer have to compare yourself to Hondas. In any regard.

However, now that you're all grown-up, you do need to start searching before asking:
