the gmmaf with translator was going to be my first mod but am i too much of newb? i have a logger but should i still get egt and boost guages first? logic tells me that if i get the setup and i just leave the adjustments at 0, my car should run like before (except higher flowing) as there is no adjustments made. btw, i plan on the 3" MAF, maft, and dejon 3" intake pipe. mods are: ::crickets chirping::

thanks,
Jake

Yup ;) Not really the wisest choice as far as first mod. You gotta take care of the UIP and BOV first if you want the most noticeable diffrence as far as first couple of mods. The upgrade path IS the tried and true steps as far as mods. The MAF Translator to me belongs after you've already done most of the mods including a new turbo.

isnt it kinda wasteful to buy an intake now, and then redo the intake later once you get the maft setup? you might say just do blowthrough, but you still have to redo intake as you would have to get a straight intake pipe without stock maf fitting from dejon or whoever even if you did go with blowthrough.

I guess with what your planning... I don't think you will get any noticeable diffrence cuz your still choking at both your intake and exhaust therefore not gonna make that much diffrence. I think it all depends on how quickly you can or want to do your mods cuz if your taking your time then this mod won't have the same effect as replacing your UIP and BOV. If you were to do a lot in a short period of time then I guess it would be OK.

so it wont hurt anything, it just wont be giving any significant gains...but niether would any other intake i buy. why would a stright through maf with an intake give less gains than an intake using the stock maf?

also, am i too much a tuning newb to use the maft without hurting anything. i have a logger so i would be able to keep tabs on some things.

Skip it for now and go with the cheap and effective mods. Then buy the translator...I 100% recommend it!

It seems to me that when you do the MAFT mod, you'd be getting new UICPs and a BOV at the same time, especially if you're getting the pipes from Dejon (and those do look nice!). I would recommend at least a boost gauge first, since if you do get the new piping with a new BOV, you'll be doing something that can theoretically be capable of raising boost, and you'll want to know the details of that. And it looks like you would have to get a new intake at the same time, since you'd be removing the stock MAF from the intake path and would not be able to keep using the OEM intake pipe.

Getting the translator first is a good idea IF you get a new UICP and 1st GEN CBV at the same time and put the sensor in the pipe. The best way is to short route the pipe. This, however, also usually means an FMIC. Wait until you can do these all at once. Do it right. Do it once.

thanks fellas, i've decided to do the maft setup when i do fmic/piping/bov and just have the pipes cut to fit the maf. thanks again for the help,

Jake
