Which is the best BOV?

I'm rather fond of the sound of my 1g BOV on my 99 GSX. :) Can't see a point to buying a more expensive one except for the bling-bling factor (or if you're planning on running more than about 23 PSI of boost...).

you can run over 23 psi on a 1g bov without crushing it
there is a nifty trick you can do to it

correct me if im wrong, but i believe the max boost you can run on a 1g BOV w/o crushing it is 18psi

i really like the turboXS RFL

I have read about the drilling of the 1g bov to eliminate the loss of metered air through the hole in the bottom. This will supposidly make it hold more pressure too.

To be honest there is no reason in the world that the bov should ever leak. If you have the pressure at the top equal to the pressure on the bottom it should never move if you have even a light spring keeping it closed. The bov would have unequal pressure when not under boost opening it up at that point (who cares it is made to do that anyway)...so the question is how the fug does the thing leak at all? did they not think when they made it?

I want to do some testing on this and see if i can figure out a free way to make it hold say 35psi but i need an old one to cut apart. It doesn't matter if it is broken or generally doesn't work anymore i just need one. If you have a crapped out 1g bov that you will send me send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I will try and engineer a way for us all to have really cheap bovs that will never leak.

Could you share this nifty trick with the rest of us? Is it the drilling trick or something different?

I have a TurboXS type H and vent to atmosphere and the cars runs "ok" but imho it will run better venting to intake. So I will be switching to a 1st gen,HKS with recirc kit,or Turbo XS H34 it vents to the intake..any of the above mentioned three will work fine...If vented to intake.Later Corey D

MY ?? is this. does anybody in here use the APEXI twin chamber bov? And if so what are the pros an cons?

i run hks ssqv. kicks ass. i have mine vented back into the intake using the extra adapter and it sounds incredible. problem with the apex-i dual chamber valve is the boring sound. sounds like a diesel truck. e-mail me and i can send wavs and mpegs of both. ill be out of town this weekend but i can send them out when i get back on monday.

can you still notice the distinct sound of the hks ss bov while its vented back to the intake? i owuld like to hear some sounds/videos of it on your car.. can you email it to me? [email protected]

I have HKS SSQ, venting to the atmosphere (I don't run a MAS, I have a stand alone ECU), and I wouldn't change it for anything. It sounds amazing (kind of like a double venting sound - one loud and the other more high pitched). I run 25 psi at the track, and it doesn't leak; and in the street (10 psi) I don't get lag or any surge. So in my opinion, It's the best one you can get.

pic of hks super sequential bov installed, routed into intake piping. working on getting more wavs and videos. hold up on the requests for now :)

oh yeah... blah blah i know.. stock uicp. blow me. :p .. its funny as hell to watch that damn flex-i-pipe blow up like a baloon when i open up the throttle. its alive i tell you.. breathing just like you and me

look at that likn i posted.. turbospyder98 has his vented back into the intake.. look at the pic.. some people seem to have no problem venting to the atmosphere.. if u have problems.. then vent it back to the intake.. i really would love to have it vented to atmosphere but if its gonna make the car run like isht just for some sound.. then forget that.. thats why i want to know if it is still loud vented back to the intake..

the bov is loud as hell even vented back to the intake... the only issue is that i cant use the little custom inserts they have to let you customize the sound.. it comes with a chrome plastic ring that has 3 cross bars... it makes it have a really high pitched squeak that my car lacks... dont get me wrong it still sounds good.. i just want a pipe with those 3 cross bars to let me vent back to the intake (or a vpc...) so i can still have the trademark HKS sound. i dont have my car right now.. borrowed my dads truck to help my gf move into college.. once i get it back ill have my girl take some vids or whatever. gotEclipseD, there are plenty of threads around about venting to the atmosphere.. shouldnt be too hard to find one (this isnt a use the search response... as im sure theres one on top right now.. LOL) ill try to get a vid of my uicp breathing. i still think its a trip.. uicp is next hehe. does anyone here use the dejontool uicp? i can get it flanged for the hks ssqv for only $240 for everything. matching red too. oh yeah.. i was a sucker and paid $61 shipped for 2 damn pipes. sucks for the wallet but i was in a hurry :) now that i see how its done (thanks for the link..) ill redo it so i can use the sound insert. pretty cool :)

yea.. i thought thats what you did? (the link i showed u).. i guess u did it a different way and just made the thing vent back to the intake.. also maybe the recirculation thing that HKS makes will let u use the inserts if that method on the link wont allow u to..

as for the dejon tool upper ic pipes.. thats exactly wat i was going to do.. purchase the upper ic pipes from dejon (from the stock smic to the throttle body.. flanged for hks ss bov.. powder coated red.. but then i thought about in the future about upgrading to get an FMIC.. with the dejon upper ic pipes.. we can still use those if we get an FMIC kit that reroutes to where the stock smic was.. we'll see..

keep us posted about the vids/sounds..
