Once in a while after a drive, I'll pull into the garage and let the car idle (poor man's turbo timer). I usually raise my hood while idling in my garage. Anyway when I finally shut off my car, I will sometimes get this humming sound coming from my engine. I can't really pinpoint where it is coming from but can only guess from the passenger side from about the battery to the intake. Does anyone have any idea what this may be?

Your turbo spinning down? I've listened on mine, and haven't been able to hear anything, but on a friends Saab, you can definitely hear the turbo still spinning after you shut the car off. It just sounds like a decreasing-pitch spinning noise.

I'll bet it is your charcoal canister purging, my friends '97 Talon does after each shutdown, mine has done it once or twice. It kind of sounds like an according getting squeezed really slow for a few seconds(I know stupid description :D ).
BTW: The canister is right below your battery too, so that's probably what it is.

It is a Rochester Part(a.k.a. GM......LOL), I think mainly because it was going to be cheaper for Mitsu. to buy GM emission controls then to produce them themselves for U.S. vehicles.

I hear a humming noise when I shut my car off too but It seems to be coming fromt the rear of the car i thought maybe an aftermarket fuel pump installed by the previous owner but I cant hear it when the car is running what could this be.

Did you check if its coming from your fuse box? I had this humming before and it was from my fuse box, and popped it open... and it became even louder. But it doesn't seem like it, but its a thought.

=^.^=

Mine car does it too...not sure what it is and never really worried about it, I've had the car its whole life and it's always done it. I thought it might have been the ac compressor but don't quote me on that.

It did 310 at the wheels at 18lbs on pump gas. Kind of dissapointing considering I put a 1G head and 1G intake manifold. We were going to put in some C16 but Shane couldn't find the equipment to drain my tank. Oh well.

If you have a power antenna then that is the noise you are hearing from the back of the car. it is the motor pulling the antenna down.
