Does anybody know if it is ok to remove the resonator looking thing between the turbo and intercooler. I was cleaning all of the lines and tubes out on my car and discovered it. Does anybody know if this little black box serves a purpose?

It was put there to quiet down "intake noise". I took mine out and replaced it with a section on metal tubing. If you decide to do it, make sure you flare the ends because if you don't it WILL blow off without notice. That will limit you to 45mph and you'll have to pull off the highway and reclamp it.

Where did you get the metal piping from. I know what you are talking about because i took it off and stretched the flex pipe to tne intercooler. The tension on the flex pipe was very tight, and sure enough i was on the side of the highway.LOL. If you could tell me where you got the piping and what size you got it would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I removed mine and used the Greddy Lower IC pipe. I believe you have to buy the entire set and get both upper and lower IC pipes though. My friend installed his 16G so it was no use for him and he gave it to me.
Extreme Motorsports and I believe Hahn sell just the lower IC pipe. Or you could probably make your own from a coolant hose.

Hope that helps!!

I appreciate the help. The other night I actually took the whole flex pipe and me and my friend grabbed opposite ends and stretched, and it stretched it enough to where the hose will stay on with a hose clamp under full boost. So i hope that holds me over until i get the greddy kit that u were talking about. Does that piping give any noticable gains?

I only have that lower Greddy pipe until my UIC gets here from DSS.
My friend with the Greddy UIC says he noticed a more torque from the start and faster boost/turbo response; which is probably what you would expect from any upgraded UIC pipe.

does anyone have a pic of this.....I have replaced my turbo a while back...and I never found this. Is it a restriction.....cause I am always looking for free power., or cost effiecent. Hope someone has a pic...or at least a better description of this. Thanks.

It is a black 'box' between the intercooler and the turbo; piped into the lower intercooler pipe. It is closer to the intercooler and is attached at the top. It resembles a overflow tank of some sort but obviously no openings except on both ends where the lower intercooler pipes are attached.

I am pretty sure that these were only on the '95 and '96 model years as my friends '97 does not have it. Also, the service manual for my car ('96), makes no mention of it, nor is it in any of the diagrams. I assume that it was probably carry over diagrams and instructions from previous years(I've seen many service manuals that do that).

BTW: I didn't notice any performance gain by removing it, it's for sound suppression.

Hope that helps!!
