yes the 1st gen BOV is a good cheap upgrade for the 2g..

crushing it is exactly that, putting it into a vice grip and crushing the thing to hold more boost..

yes.. though you dont need to do it right away.. im sure more people will reply as there is a specific way to do it but thats essneitally what it is
