Cheaper MAF Translator intake?

I will soon be using the GM MAFT setup in a blow-through configuration. Not really interested in paying $90 for an intake pipe and filter. Because normal intakes are 2.5" I figure a short ram intake for another vehicle will work just as well. Anyone know of something that looks like it might fit? Ebay intakes go for $25 all day long and if I can save the money I would like to.

If you wannt go that route, just go on www.jcwhitney.com and pick up a couple mandrel bends and weld them together, some cutting will be invloved of course too. The only thing that sucks is you will need to weld in a recirculatoin fitting.

I suggest you put the MAF just before the TB elbow, you should even be able to cut a section out of the stock upper "S" hose and stick the MAF in there for a tight budjet. And then you dont have to worry about recirculating either.

Either way you should be able to make your own 2.5" round intake pipe for ~$20 or less.
 
Thanks for the well thought out post but I'm not really into the CHEAP cheap route that won't look awesome in my bay. I am kind of a perfectionist with the fit and finish of modifications and want it to be a clean install. All I need is a piece of polished chrome pipe that will fit and put the filter in the stock location since I'll be venting and have removed all vacuum lines. Someone must have done this, I'm on a DSM forum :).

EDIT: Think I might have found one that will work. 90-93 Integra CAIs have a section that looks just like a 2g VPC pipe. Cut off the rest, hook that filter on and BAM, $25 turbo intake pipe.

I would think that with the influx of people using the translator that this topic would be of more interest. So bump just in case it's just gone unnoticed thus far. Also, an 88-91 Civic/CRX intake will work in the same fashion with some trimming.

im usin the intake pipe off of my 94 non turbo...not sure if itll work on a 2 g but just lettin ya know
 
It might, but the Civic/CRX and 90-93 Integra intakes can be had for $35 shipped, probably less than a more rare application like a 1g NT.

Hey streetbeat...

I just picked up a 3" MAF for nothin ;) and I was wondering where you have yours positioned? I read that it responds well directly after the BOV section on the UICP, but now I read that it is also good right before the TB elbow. Just wondering what luck you're having with your positioning.

right now my cars in a billion places so i havent been able to test it out. im placin it right after the throttle body cause i read somewhere that it shouldnt be within 6 inches of the bov.
 
After the TB? As in, between the intake manifold, or after it as in on the IC pipe?

Sorry, I just got confused.
