Hi,

just wondering, I heard that fwd turbo cars have a govenor at 130. I was racing a friend last night in his rsx and i hit 135 and coulda still gone faster but had to slow up. So i was just wondering how it works.

thanks

Well, it is at 130... the fact that your spedo probably isn't 100% accurate at 130+mph would explain why you saw 135 when it really was 130.

If you want some info on how to get rid of it (although why the hell would you be racing that fast anyways? A RSX should not be that good of a race to begin with), you can check out www.vfaq.com

They'll have some answers for you.

nah i don't need to get rid of the limiter. don't plan on going that fast again anyway. And the rsx beat me too :( . But the only thing i have done to the engine of my car right now is an intake.

and i know that fast is really dangerous but i had to try it once.

thanks

hey those rsx's are 200hp on a 2liter...now that's impressive for n/a. they're fast.

the race was from a roll at about 65. were dead even in third but as soon as i shift too 4th he starts walking. Oh yeah the mods on the rsx were a injen short ram intake and a borla catback. He also has a set of 18's and some coilovers too.

I raced him from a start once but since i only had the car about a week, i just wound up smoking the tires. I can't launch the car for sh*t.

i rev the car up to about 3500, what do you mean slipping the clutch properly? I try to feather it ut but this is also my first stick car so i really suck at launching

hey, any of you guys know for sure if the n/a's have govenor's at 130mph also? cuz there's a similar thread on the n/a performance forum and a guy is saying he hit 150mph...which seems a little much even if the car DIDN'T have a govenor.

here's what he said:
"well there is no governor on my car. i bought it new in 98 and even when i only had an air intake and a cfdfc i've been able to rev. just over the limiter at least form 1st through 4th and i've hit over 150mph numerous time. "

Well my speedo is right on target because the governor hits right at 130 on the speedo. I know I have a AWD and it shouldn't have a governor but the ECU went bad I bought a used ECu for a $100 bucks off ebay that only had 500 miles on it. I'm going to the speedo limiter removal on the car because I usually hit 130 a lot. I still have the old ECU and I have to get it rebuilt and once thats done I'll have 2 ECU's to work with. I'm going to mod one out and leave the other stock so I can switch them out whenever I need to.

have you ever raced a RSX-S or are you just going off what someone else told you that they heard from someone else?? you get my point.. a T25 based Eclipse is a SLUG top end, that Type S should haul ass top end if its anything else like the rest of its honda/acura brethern..

any ideas on how to free up the exhaust. I mean i know the whole thing but what would you recommend to do first? like a catback, downpipe...

a eclipse with the stock t25 will get smoked on the top end by an rsx type s.. or even better a celica gts..

though these cars are n/a they have mean top ends..
celica gts is 2500lbs 180hp
rsx type s is 2700 200hp

these 2 cars are capable of hitting 14.9-15 sec 1/4 miles stock..

and a celica gts (6 speed 2000-2001) with just an injen cai are capable of hitting 14.3

so unless your eclipse (gst/gsx) has mods or turbo upgrade.. or ur racing from a stop and u get the car from the launch due to the torque advantage.. dont think u can beat these cars so easily on a highway battle.. because if ur running just the stock t25 with a few or no mods.. the gts and rsx type s will pull on you at the top end like your standing still..

thats why I don't underestimate my ex-car.. i know how it runs.. :) and i know larry knows wat the GTS is capable of doing as wel too

the rsx is a very nice car. when that thing hits vtec it really screams. Me, the rsx, and my friends mustang with full exhaust were racing and i heard the intake over the stangs exhaust. I think if it was a better driver racing from the start he would beat him through third but once he hits 4th he starts to walk away.

And one other thing, i knew i would not beat the rsx. If i made it sound like i was expecting to beat it i apologize. I just got the car and besides the intake its pretty much stock.

later

crashed97tsi.. race it from a stop and get the better launch and it will have to play catch up.. the thing abut turboed dsm.. even though stock 1/4 miles arent that impressive.. they can be made fast easily.. 2k worth of mods on a turbo dsm will be good for 13s maybe faster? 2k on the rsx and the celica.. is only half of wats needed to pay for a turbo kit.. maybe not even.. heh..

If you buy right and do the mods yourself 1500 will get you into the 12s.

Just a note about that video of the Eclipse hitting top end. That was not filmed in America. The car was bought in Texas, Houston I think, and was shipped over to Saudia Arabia I think. Thats where it was filmed at. I believe he hit 165 in the video but Im not sure.
