I'm on a budget but still want performance. This is the cheapest way I can make a good exhaust. It also cuts down on noise which is a good thing for a daily driver not looking for attention.

Stock Sized DP Flange $10
2 1/2" Exhaust Gasket $8
2.5" Braid Covered Flex Section $50
2.5" Down Pipe First Bend $30
Quick Time Electric Cutout Valve 2.5" $150
-------
$248

so that would basicly be like running an open downpipe when u flipped the switch to open the electric cutout, bypassing the muffler, and it would go through ur stock cat back when the switch was turned off and the opening closed
i suppose if u have anough mods to support running an open downpipe i would be a good mod, but if ur car is bone stock i dont think its going to be a good idea, it might not have enough back pressure to run right, on a completly stock car i dont think it will make u much faster, but iv never seen anyone run an open DP on a sock car so i really wouldnt have any way to know

and for the $250 that thats going to cost ur going to spend on that u could get an exhaust shop to make u a press bent 3" turbo back with a cheap muffler, it will flow almost as good as a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, and u will actually have an exhaust instead of a valve that bypasses ur stock exhaust

The 3" press bent and a cheap muffler is very loud all the time. Cops around here will pull you over if you have a loud muffler.

And you think they aren't going to pull you over the first time you flip the switch and make your exhaust as long as the DP? There used to be a clip on here of a guy who had an external dump and it was crazy loud so I'm not seeing how you're getting around the noise issue.

I see it fine. In small/medium sized towns, you know exactly where every speed trap is. When rolling up to one, you close the bypass, making the exhaust quiet. Then, once a healthy distance from the pedo... sorry, PD you open it back up and scare some H's.

If I were you I'd get a real exhaust...right now I'm not running a DP...just took it off cause one is in the mail...DAMN it is LOUD and if you plan on moding in the future...no that will not be enough.

I thought 2.5" was good 'till around 300whp. I'm not going to leave it open while I'm driving around town, only when I got to the races and the track:thumb: .My future mods are: 95 pistons, 95 ex mani & O2 housing, some port work(Only have to buy the parts, labour is free:D ), the exhaust mentioned above, intake, MBC @ 16psi, and a home made FMIC. You're telling me that the 2.5" is not enough. It's the shortest path an exhaust can travel eccept for taking the whole thing off. What do you guys think. Oh and those cheap exhausts sound horible, I could drive around like that.

my friend had one on his n/a integ and it leaks alittle bit of air when fully shut so if you place it before the cat it might not pass smog...and it made his exhaust louder all the time even when shut, prolly not enough to get you pulled over
