FP Big t-28 vs. FP Big 16G are the turbo im want to get for my spydie. I want some opinions on which one to get here is my pros and cons of each.

FP Big T-28:
pro
1. looks like T-25 (so better chance i wont break my warrenty)
2. bolts directly onto 2G no install kits
3. cheaper in the long run the Big 16G

Con
1. cant upgrade to a bigger turbo in futrue
2. packs a slight less punch than Big 16G

FP Big 16G:
pro
1. proven 12 second turbo
2. good power at moderate boost level
3. upgraded capablities

Con
1. more money doesnt bolt on to 2G need install kit
2. more turbo lag
3. better chance of breaking warrenty

KEEP IN MINE im 17 and i want to keep this car around 250-300 WHP both turbo are capable of this thank you for your opinion. Throw in any suggestion on other turbos thank you
P.S.- if you have a good conditions FP Big t-28 or Big 16G PM me.

I personally like the sound of the ease of a "no hassle drop in install". Thats why im actually going to get a Big-T-28. Or at least im hoping to get one really soon ;)

Its proven the big-16g will basically "walk all over" the big-t28 but if your not looking for anything really Hardcore from your car then i would just get a big-t-28. Im planning on 13's hopefully and with awd i dont think its going to be really hard to do because traction isnt going to be an issue.

As far as your car bro, get a big-t28. Thats what is gonna get my vote. If you want why not pm some of the users on the site that have had both turbo's and see what they have to say about each. But hopefully they will see this thread and chime in.

Whatever you decide just remember one thing...
There is NO SEX in the Champagne Room... NONE!

Good Luck!

I am sorry, but this just is not true. The big 16G will not walk all over the big t28. Dont be fooled by its size, it can propel you in the twelves without alot of difficulty, provided you are a good driver. Of course, if you are FWD, then you will need slicks.

What 99GST said.

Where are you getting this information that a Big 16G will "walk all over" a big T28? Because the 16G has been around for over 10 years? I've got a Big T28 AGP equivelant, we'll have to see how it does with a 6 bolt 1G Head/intake manifold/bottom end....

If you want a true "bolt on" easy turbo, it's just a simple replacement. Don't forget to port that O2 housing out either.

Actually, I think the t-28 are a little over-rated. I never had one, but I rode in a car w/ one and I was not impressed. Butt dyno tells me that it pulls only slightly better than the 14b swap I did. He said his car wasn't in the best tune, so I guess that can be an excuse. Also, the t-28 is expensive! After you send in your turbo you still end up shelling out anywhere from $600-800. You can get b16g installed for around that price and then sell your t-25 yourself.

The Big28 from Forced Performance is a good deal, IMHO. It is so easy to install, and very high quality.
I have the smaller T28/28 (not as much top end power as the newer Big28) and it's done everything I asked of it for the past 2 years. It installed perfectly.

It's a blast around town (super fast spool) and can kill just about any V8 on street night, with it's low 13, high 12 second times. I'm sure the Big28 does better.

You guys make it sound like the 16g is SOOO hard to bolt up to a 2g. In fact its not. Omg you need a 1g oil return and a 1g oil feed and a 1g jpipe.. oh shit its not bolt on anymore. I mean really. ALso if you like tire spin get the t28 b/c it will spool faster making more smoke. Not to say the 16g wont but it will take a second longer before the smoke comes. Also your fwd your car will be good on the highway and everyone knows that the topend on a big16g is better than the t28. So go with the big16g and have fun. Only problems i can see you running into that would make the 16g more constly is boostcreep. IF that happens then you need to spend more money on porting and a bigger flapper.

Just my 2cents

both turbos are better than the t2small for sure though

From my experience and seeing other dsmers in your same postion I would say forget both of those turbos. Because I can tell you exactly what is gonna happen. You'll get one of those and it will be cool for a little while and then you'll start craving more boost. And then you'll want to get a bigger turbo. This happens to almost everybody so my advice would be to skip the middle step and go big right now. 50 trim is pump gas king and that is your bi***.

for a 2g the big t28 is a better upgrade then a big 16g, it will build boost much faster and at a lower rpm, almost as fast as the t25, which will make it much more driveable if its ur daily driver, and it makes power comparable to a big 16g
but i agree with slappster on his point, u might as well save urself the time and money and get a bigger turbo then that, it will be good for now but u will end up craving more boost, this thread should really be t28 or 20g, if ur going to switch to a mitsu turbo on ur 2g u might as well get the 20g, it will be enough boost and power for u, where the t28 might not please u 6 months from now u could just turn the boost o the 20g up a little more and get more power

My thoughts exactly. When my t-25 blew I got the FP big16g and if I could do it over I would of gotten the FP red or green.

Whatabout the T28 Killer from turbochargers.com...

i have it, but never felt what a real big16g can do....

thanx for all your replies it really helped me out alot. I decided to go with the FP Big T-28 (ported). The reason i dont want a bigger turbo is i dont have alot of money to spend on many mods because im about to start college. All i really want is to get the IC pipe (w/ a greddy BOV), 190 fuel pump, 550cc injectors, boost & A/F gauges, EBC & TT, the FP Big T-28, port O2 and Manifold. All this is gonna cost about $ 2,000-$3,000 depending on brand. My goal is just to get into the low 13's in my spydie. Once agian thank you for all your input you really helped me out

Good choice, you will not be dissappointed. However, launching will be difficult. Eventually you will learn how to properly launch the car my slipping the clutch and feathering the throttle. Once you get the hang of it, I think you will feel very rewarded, as it is more difficult to launch a FWD car.

Enjoy the turbo......I am enjoy mine everyday :D

Well put... I actually ordered a T28 Killer to begin with, but when I started thinking about it, I asked myself "will I be happy with a turbo with such limitations?", of course not. I called and told extremepsi to send me a 50 trim instead (which was only 50 bucks more by the way), and I have no regrets at all. True you will end up spending more on mods to get the full potential out of this turbo, but you could do it piece by piece and turn the boost level up according to your level of mods. I took my car to the track for the first time since installing the 50 trim and I actually had less traction probs than I did with the T25 because this turbo spools more progressively off the line. This is just my outlook however, I hope you enjoy the T28 :thumb:

You remind me of myself 1 year ago... I started off college with a stock 50k 96GSX, and planned everything that you wanted... i just finished everything on your list, you can do it man :thumb:

I did the same...with another few thousands of dollars into making it a showcar as well. Took me 2 years.

Tom

You should have went with the Big16g...I would say that T28 is more for the 2gAWD and Big16g is for either AWD/FWD...the problem is traction...I remeber having traction problems with my T25. I couldn't imagine a turbo that spools up just as fast with much more power...shit I'd be spinning in 2nd for sure...maybe even 3rd.

I am happy with my Big16g...for a while I was planning on getting a 50trim cause I didn't really like my Big16g. But then I thought about what I have done and what I want to do with the car.

I am still not tuned at all and on stock injectors and have a stock downpipe and unported O2 housing (just ordered RnR O2 Eliminator DP)
And I plan to use the car for AutoX...so the Big16g is perfect for me.

I have pulled on c5 vettes, ls1 camaro's, mustangs etc. with my FP ported Big28 with what mods I have in my profile. Although I'm planning on going with a FP Green and 660's in a few months. The Big28 does have good topend power IMHO. I just want a bit more. Formally known as "SPEEDY"

I wanted the T28/Big28 myself in the beginning. I wanted something that was easy to install made descent power etc etc..

In the end I went with a T3/T3 50Trim and external wastegate. It was more money for sure but absolutly worth it after I got it tuned and felt the huge increase in power. I love it when you do an upgrade and the car feels better but going to a whole new turbo intercooler setup makes double the power you had before. I literally couldn't believe the increase in power that I got it was just huge. I easly kill everything on the street including most other DSM's in town.

The 50trim really is the pump gas king, as Slapster said it's your bi*** for sure...

Agreed! I wished I had went with a FP Green instead of the Big28 to begin with, not dissing the Big28 or anything, but it's just making me want even more HP, especially on pump gas.
