Europe
hello, I've just bought a 96 eclipse, the chassis nr says it is a 4g63 engine, but their is no turbo mounted on it, or something that refers to a turbo engine, I live in europe, can it be that I have a european model without turbo??? please help me, urgent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

Do you have a digi cam...take a pic of the engine so we can see it.

Also does it say 4g63 on the block? cause there is a little stamp on the block down on the left side of the exhaust manifold (but not on the head...on the block look a little further down) it should be imprinted.

Does the car have a boost guage stock? It is in the far left guage with the oil pressure as well. Are you absolutely sure there is no turbo? What is there just a header?

the manifold is a normal collector, that doesn't support a turbo, about the stamp I do not know, car doens't stand here, (im not at home now)

In Europe all the cars got the 4g63, just like 1g's. Here in the U.S. is the only place that n/t got the 420a engine so yes you have a normal car, for Europe. I say you are lucky cause its easier to turbo your car than if you had a USDM n/t 2g.

so I can just buy everything to run a turbo and it will work??? I don't think so, the compression must be different and also the ecu will be very different , so It is not so different !!!!

you can use the stock ecu you will just need to do more tuning with the afc or you could just go buy a turbo ecu and plug it in. So basically you could just go buy all the stock turbo parts and plug them all in and you'll be good to go(its a little harder than that but its pretty simple). As for the compression i don't know the compression ratios for the n/t 2g 4g63 as they were only in europe, and if anything the compression would be a bit higher which would be better cause you would make more power from it. There are several people on this board who have changed their 1g n/t into turbo by making a turbo kit out of all the turbo parts<- of course they have 1g's but the overall set up shouldn't be that different. So find someone who has done it and ask them. Don't quote me on this one but i think maviski did the n/t to turbo change thing. But there are plenty of people to ask about this one. Its not as hard as ou think.

since u have the euro with the 4g63 all u need is the turbo, exhaust manifold, a new downpipe and entire exhaust system from the manifold back(including o2 sensor housing), either an afc or a turbo ecu, and all the piping and vacume lines, and a turbo intake mani and throtle body couldnt hurt
u should be able to buy a wrecked dsm (preferably rolled or rear ended) and get everything u need including the turbo from that, u can do all the work urself, its not that hard, its just unbolting things and replacing them with corisponding parts from the other car, the only hard part will be running all the vacume lines
u should be able to get one wrecked for around 2k to 3k, and u should be able to sell the block, unused parts, and interior parts, and all the n/t parts u took off ur car to get some of that back

you will need the injectors as well
make sure it is a standard 1g. best stock cams, best stock turbo, bigger injectors than the auto.

but I will need to buy everything, like oil lines etc, isn't it???? and wich parts like cam gears etc can I use for my european 4g63????

why would you need new cam gears? All you would need is
turbo
exhaust mani
throttle body
intercooler
Piping
exhaust
injectors
ecu or afc
all the oil lines and connections
pretty sure that's it i might be missing something cause i don't know what exactly you need for this but this list is just off the top of my head the main parts that you would need to complete this. You don't even need new cams as the difference between n/t and turbo wasnt even that much to make a difference.

but is the european 4g63 a full atmosferic engine, or an non turbo version of the usdm 4g63??????

or instead of " mickey mousing" the build up it would be much easier for you to obtain an evo 3 motor, and ecu (the wiring harness is almost the same), it should come with all you need. just purchase the down pipe, and catback exhaust from a aftermarket source.

if you try to turbo your car remember it is in it's original state a naturally asperated motor, and therefore has a higher compression ratio, and cannot reach the horsepower (KW) potential of a factory built turbo motor.

since you live in europe it will be much easier to find an evo3 motor.

see this web site as an example, prices may be different since the evo's were sold in europe. ( mind you evo 3 motors, and below will fit into the 2g eclipse, evo 4 and up are mounted in an opposite fashon .)

hope this helps,

BTW where in europe?

to "drop" in the evo3 motor it's a pretty basic motor swap. ( belive it or not 2g's , and Evo's are close relatives.)

besides it will save you a ton of money, and bump your horsepower (KW) with just a simple swap to 280bhp.

the only thing that you will have to get is the stock piping, and sidemount intercooler, as well as a lower "J" pipe to attach the turbo(16g) to the intercooler.

or get an aftermarket front mount intercooler.

does your car come with an external oil cooler? if not you will also want to obtain this also.

the engine, in your car is a 4g63 right?, the transmission will bolt right up i belive that you can obtain the fly wheel from a usdm gst, and you shouldn't have any problems.

the evo motor is a 4g63T same block differnt internals.

If you are desperate for a turbo car then U should sell it and get a turbo car. I have been looking for a evo III engine for a long time without any luck. Now I am rebuilding my 7bolt(hahaa) U are closer to Germany tough so you could get lucky!

yes you can, the major differences between a usdm 4g63t, and the evo 4g63t is a larger exhaust manifold, and O2 housing as well as a 16g turbo, not to forget the cyclone intake, and the larger injectors.

for help in finding an evo motor try these rally guys in europe. i'm sure that they have the resources, and contacts to help you find your motor.
