Eliminated boost creep by setting boost higher....

Well it's kind a long story so I'll make it a condensed version. :)

I bought this car with most of the mods in my profile. Well it did not come with a boost controller, larger injectors or any kind of tuning device so I left the stock boost setting alone. I did this because it would shoot to 10psi boost, then in 2nd would hit 12-13 and upwards of 16psi in 3rd.

Well a while back I had heard that by setting my boost higher it would basically eliminate any boost creep. That theory is 100% correct. I just installed a Bushur MBC this weekend and all I can say is WoW!! 3rd gear spikes to 16psi then settles to 15 and is rock steady! I wish I had done this 2 months ago LOL.... :thumb: The car is completely different now and pulls so much harder in 1st and 2nd, it's FUN now... :)

I'm going to be heading to the track next weekend to see what it'll pull. Before the MBC I was thinking a mid to high 13, but now I'm thinking a low 13. We'll see next weekend I guess.

This board rox!!:thumb: :D

you are a true newbie...of course setting the boost higher will eliminate boost creep. The only reason it creaps is because you have so much exhaust flow hitting the turbine that you are forced to boost a minimum amount....this is because the wastegate can not flow out the extra exhaust fast enough so it is forced to go through the turbine and make more boost...

Its called, your wastegate is too small

FWIW, I had previously searched for boost creep related posts. Up until a couple weeks ago I had read nothing about setting the boost higher to eleminate it. That is the main reason I made this post! And also, up until recently I didn't have the larger injectors or SAFC to support more boost anyway.

You did NOT eliminate your boost creep!!!!

You wastegate was only capable of flowing enough exhaust to keep your boost at 15 or 16 psi. When you turned the boost up, you just set it at that level, so it goes there right away rather than creeping there.

I see your point now..... But, in my eyes I 'thought' that if I ever wanted to run 15psi of boost (set with a MBC) that it would creep to over 20psi in 3rd. At least, that is what I 'thought' would happen until I read otherwise. Point being, I WAS getting boost creep before, but only because the wastegate is not capable of flowing enough exhaust gas to prevent boost climbing to 15psi. I guess I didn't really eliminate it like you say, but I did fix my problem in my eyes.:p
