today we installed a mkiv supra smic on my 95 gsx in hopes of cooling down the charge air better. now before i did this i checked for leaks on the i/c itself TWICE and no leaks were apperent. now the first time i drove it, the air temp was around 85-90 degrees, which gave me the first impression that maybe the outside air is making it worst ( upper i/c pipe was hot to the touch, and the i/c was heat soaked). so we wait until night fall and give her 2 runs(15psi mind you). again the smic was heat soaked and the upper i/c pipe was hot. we're going to try an intake leak test tomorrow, but i'd like to hear some idea's on what else might be the problem. btw, i'm also running w/out the heat shield.

Agreed. I'm running one on my 50 trim in 90deg heat without any problem. Although the temp dipped to about 65 last night and it was very nice :D

i noticed this with mine at first too.. i thought it was heatsoaked but it really wasent.. my upper pipe was hot even after slow runs.. i finally realized its because my heatshield on my mani wasent on.. put it back on and now my upper pipe stays cool even when the inlet pipe on bottom is hot to the touch.. just a thought..

thanx for the replys guys.

-i have a ported 14b btw.

well i'm going to put on the heat shield and take it from there. i also noticed an oil leak on the oil return line (oil pan), which also startled me kuz i noticed my oil pressure gauge only goes half way up. something off subject but i wanna throw in, have you guys ever felt the car was actually slower after porting? i ported the runners and the outlet of my 95 mani, the turbine inlet and smoothed out the o2 sensor housing a bit, but ever since then she's felt a bit slower. any idea's?

Well since porting does increase the cross section of the turbine inlet I wouldn't doubt that it spools a little slower. Smaller cross sections spool faster but flow less on the top end.

96AWDTSI: you know i havent yet. sounds like a good idea since the 95 eclipse inlet is small. do you have any links that show how to properly open it?

m1k3: ahh okay. thanx for the explaination. come to think of it, it does have more top end.
