Hi, I'm currenty in the market of building an everday car and street car. I like the body style of the 2g eclipses. I want to buy 2g RS or GS and swap the engine, but I dont know what engine I should go with. Gst or 6-bolt? I seriously don't know much about the 6-bolt thing. How would the swap go and I will need to know eveyrthing I'd need and do for this. Is it a basic bolt up swap or will customizing be needed? I will be modding this car and would like to have the most reliable and best set-up possible. Any suggestions would help and thanks a lot! Also too, are there any places online to buy engines from?

Oh and I'm in SoCal, any shops around here that can help me with this and carry everything I'll need to do this? Thanks!

I'm not gonna come off and say "DO A SEARCH" but that isn't a bad idea. You wouldn't want to try to convert a GS or RS because it's not something easily feasible like dropping a B18 in a civic hatchback. I mean everything that could possibly be a set back to doing this coversion is provided. The mounts are not the same, the two separate motors rotate in different directions. To be truly honest with you, you wouldn't want to waste the time and money of doing this conversion. You could be riding in a rather quick "real" DSM.

By the way, a 6 bolt motor is an 89 to May of 92 4G63 motor.

Not going to work unless you have DEEEEEEEP pockets. You will have to have some shop fab you some new motor mounts. Fab time is about 60 bones a hour. Then you will have to redo the trans mounts and get a FWD turbo trans, the also the ECU, and dont forget about the wiring harrness. I am more than likey forgetting some other stuff but that is most of it. So get a Turbo car GST or GSX then put a 6 bolt in it.

Luke
LILGSX 96 6bolt haltech 272/272 cams, "porn kings" intake manifold big turbo and more stuff.....

If I bought a GST or GSX wouldn't then engine in there already be good ? Why would I wanna swap out a good engine, unless there is something wrong with the GST engines.... I didn't know that the GS ro 6-bolt swapw as complicated, so that idea gets thrown out the window. How about buying a high mileage GST and putting in a 6-bolt? What would I need and how would the ECU work? And what parts from the GST would be used in swapping the 6-bolt (ex: turbo, head, internals)? If I bought a modded GST, would I be able to use the parts from the GST after I do the 6-bolt swap? Thanks so far, I've learned alot!

You are in luck. There's a little company called "Mitsubishi" who built just what you're looking for. They called it the Eclipse GS-X.

My god, there's hundreds down there, many already built beyond what you'd do yourself. Why do you want to torture yourself? Pick one up, fix it if it breaks. If you're just a fiddle-freak, a DSM pushed a bit beyond its stock envelope will give you TONS of things to fu(k with.

isn't it easier to swap an EVO IV + engine in a RS/GS/ESi? they are rotated 180 degrees.

engines aren't just plug-and-play...

but anyway, you can do a 6-bolt swap. here's what i'm doing with my 6-bolt swap into my 97 GS-T (damn crankwalk!)

2G throttle body elbow
1G throttle body
1G intake manifold
1G head
6-bolt bottom end
2G exhaust manifold
14b turbo
2G O2 housing

that's the combination you want. and obviously, you want the 2G MAS. get yourself a 2G turbo DSM and do a 6-bolt swap. be sure to check out www.magnusmotorsports.com though like the other guy suggested, because there's lots of useful info there, and they list which parts you need to use on the 6-bolt in a 2G swap. and if you're FWD... don't forget, you need a 6-bolt FWD flywheel!! we forgot that the JDM motor comes with the AWD flywheel... so now i'm searching for a 6-bolt FWD flywheel. :( motor is ready to go in the car, just needs a freakin flywheel!
