How do these things come out?

I can't get the 2 head alignment dowels out of the old block. I'm really not sure what they're really called but it's the 2 little things(one on each end) in the hole where the head bolts on the end go. They align the head when you put it on the block. I've got a new block and I need to get those out of the old one. They appear to just be sitting in there but I can't get them out. I tried a pair of channel locks but they will not budge. Please help.

You need to heat the area of the block that surrounds those plugs. They are pressed in there, so you won't be able to just yank them out. If you take a torch with a VERY low flame to the area surrounding those plugs and heat the area real well you should be able to pull them out just fine.
