Well, the car is apart now anyways, (Pending a clutch job once I finally save up enough for an ACT 2600) and I decided to take out the stock SMIC, to clean it.

When I got it out:
-The upper pipe, looks corroded, and has 3 small holes in it.
-Other than that, it was suprisingly clean looking.

I guess, I was able to hold boost, because the holes are under where the rubber coupling thingie would be.

*Well my questions are:
-What should I use to, remove corroded gunkie crap?
-What should I do to patch the little holes?
-And what should I do to clean the inside out?
+Should I just break down and buy a supra SMIC? (Could I sell mine for anything if I go this route?)

Thanx,
DeathBeast

use rubbing alcohol to clean the intercooler out and idk maybe some silicone or a spotweld mite do the trick not really sure tho

Clean the pipe with a wire brush, that will be the quickest method. To fix the holes, goto a speed shop or somewhere that can weld Al. You could also use JB weld, but I wouldn't. To clean the IC I used kerosene. Anything that will clean oil will do and preferably will evaporate

*Well my questions are:
-What should I use to, remove corroded gunkie crap?
>>Gas, nail polish remover, and lots of elbow grease.

-What should I do to patch the little holes?
>> Jb weld them. I wouldn't worry about them too much after that since they are under the rubber fitting, maybe put an extra clamp on there.

-And what should I do to clean the inside out?
>> Gas to clean out the inside of the IC. Then let it evaporte for 20mins or so.

+Should I just break down and buy a supra SMIC? (Could I sell mine for anything if I go this route?)
>> You don't have to. Don't buy one just because your ic has 3 holes. Think about your upgrade path and consider a smic or fmic

-I guess, I was able to hold boost, because the holes are under where the rubber coupling thingie would be.
>> After all is said and done, do a leak detector test on your car. See if you have any other leaks in the piping. Also to keep your ic free of oil you can put an oil catch can so that oil doesn't get back into the intake.

Eitehr use JB, electrical tape and cover it up with the hose or get it welded. You can prolly get $30 for the stock smic... they dont really go for anything.

As for the cleaning as most have already said, something that will evaporate yet cleans good. I always used Acetone, but gasoline or alcohol will work just as good.

Deathbeast, I have a prob with using stuff like JB and silicone to fix those holes.

If it ever comes loose, your engine will injest it. And it might cause some nasty results.

Id say, get it welded, or buy a modified one with bigger in/out pipes from Dejon.

Just my 2cents and some of the people who say use JB have been doing this longer than me so who knows....

I would clean the inside as best you can then wire brush the inlet and outlets, then finally wrap the upper pipe with duct tape a few times. Make sure it's tight. The rubber coupler should keep the tape over those holes air tight...
