HKS Cams

I am doing an engine rebuild soon, (at 240,000 kms) and I was wondering what is the better HKS cam combo: The 264/272, or the 272/272. I will be grateful for any information, and what the most common set-ups are.

i've heard the 272/272 combo has a pretty choppy idle...and would it be very good with a close to stock car? what kind of mods would it take to support the cams?

I'm using the 272s and my idle isn't that bad. Its lumpy but it doesn't try to stall or anything. I like the way it sounds. If you have a 20g or larger, the 272s are the way to go.

I am running 272/272 cams with a Magnus intake on a ported 1g head with oversize valves. I have no idle problems. I do idle at 900-1000 rpms. The engine has no balance shafts in it so I can feel it in the car. If you are lookin for good idle control at 700 rpm and dont want to feel the car then stick with the stock ones. The 264 combo does not give you enough power up top for the $$$. Remember you are putting in non stock parts so it will not react like a stock car anymore.

I do plan on putting in a larger turbo around the same time... and other supporting mods. What is the advantage of a 264/272 combo (other than a more stable idle)

I run 272/272's magnus intake Vpc/S-afc car idles dead balls at 750 no erratic idle no stalling no problem.

My idle is lumpy but not unbarable. It's really isn't as bad as people say. But it's not amazing. I'm not going to lie to you. Your car will shake more. It sounds bad ass thou. People are afraid to race me.

If you are running HKS 272's and have a lumpy idle, then you need to degree your cams properly.

If you plan on modding the car alot then just go 272/272 and save yourself from doing it twice because there is just NEVER ENOUGH POWER. Save your money for something else like a broken part or something unexpected instead of putting in cams twice.

272/272 I regret going with 264/264 sure my idle is great but top-end did not improve that much for the cash I layed out. maybe I would see better performance gains with a new intake manny anyway go big or go home
