o2&WG porting...for the amateur's?

i've done a search, but am not quite satisfied. i have a friend that does some pretty badass porting work. he's been complimented by many well known, and "excellent" porting guys. (he's a neon guy, and a few at blackdog have seen his work and liked it)

anyways, on to the question

how much skill is needed to port the o2 housing and the wastegate? would it be much harder than gasket matching?

any info is much appreciated

its pretty easy with the right tools.

its easy, just takes a long time, especially if you dont have a carbide bit.

took about 2 hrs with a shitty stone, but it costed $2

I ported my manifold myself and found that the stone bits worked the best. It still took me about 8 hours total to get it exactly how I wanted.

Do yourself a favor and wear a dust mask while you do it even if your outside cause the iron is nasty if you breathe it in...

basically....take the gasket, mark the metal thats not covered by the gasket with magic marker, then grind away the magic marker. always remember that you want both pieces that connect together to join perfectly for best flow.

good deal! thanks for the info guys. my friend is beginning to get quite good at porting stuff, but i wasnt sure how hard this would be. i've seen some stuff on vfaq about it, but it didnt really say the hardness of it
