Will I have to lower the compression ratio with a 16g?

I ahve a 91' TSi AWD and plan on getting around 310hp out of it with a 16g turbo. I was wondering if I would have to lower the compression in the engine. If so, can i do it with a thicker head gasket? Or do I need lower compression pistons. My car is currently stock and not drivable.

:dsm: Boostin' all the way:dsm:

No, you will not need to lower the compression. Lowering the compression would mean you'd have to run more boost to have the same ammount of power.

Thanks for the help. I'll keep you all posted on my honda killer.

Oh, I can't wait! With the important technical dilemnas that fester in your mind, it should be a killer indeed!

Are you being sarcastic or do you actually mean it?

Are you being sarcastic or do you actually mean it?If your Being sarcastic, then bug off. I respect the fact that you are a wiseman, but I am trying to gather info not catch crap from wiseass people who always have to put in their two measly cents.

You will definately kill some honda's but that's not something i'd brag about. I've beaten honduhs in my 17sec truck. But there are some quick ones i've seen a 10 sec street legal hatchback. Let us know what kind of numbers you get from your new turbo. Good luck man.

He was certainly being sarcastic.

You don't need a 16g to make 310 hp, especially if that's at the crank. The stock 14b will do that just fine.

And, the stock compression ratio will be fine. I'm going to be increasing mine to 8.5:1 from the stock 7.8:1....

I'm looking for 310-320 at the wheels not the crank. I also know that killing hondas isn't much to brag about, but I hate them so much. I'm tired of hondas getting most of the attention and other cars being left behind. I hate hondas so much that I will not rest until the last thing every hopped up sees in a race is my taillights.

Sorry. I get emotional about these things sometimes. LOL. By the way do any of you guys know of a place that sells performance parts for an Acura Legend? my bro is gettin' one

Here is the PM I got from our young friend here:

you're next b*@%$h
It's nice to know that you care so much. When I'm done with the hondas up here you're next you sarcastic little worthless piece of trash.

I think Norb would be a good addition to the NABR forum. He'd fit in perfect there. Try it out Norb, go sign up at www.teamnabr.com and post away!

uuummm... sorry to be the berrer of bad news... but take a glance at the cylinder head on that Honda accord... er I mean Acura Legend... you might be in for a shock there bro... :shhh:

also one thing to remember...why in gods name would you want to put performance parts on an acura legend?!?!

~matt

:shhh: don't tell the honda hater... but they make a twin turbo kit for the V6 legend... :shhh:

Are you kiddin me? I didn't know that there was a twin turbo kit for that car. Either way I still don't like hondas, but that doesn't mean that nobody I know doesn't like them. I was just curious. Maybe there is a honda that lives in my immediate area that will be a serious threat to my talon when I'm done with it.

I think you people need to read the question better. The Acura ISN'T mine.

I just lowered the compression on my GST. You should do the same. Put in some 5:1 pistons and a thicker head gasket just to be safe. You could also turn the boost up to about 30 pounds. I'm sure that will lower the compression.

You're running that low a compression so you can run high boost. My car starts with lower compression than yours. I'm also not looking to run really high boost in my car. I want a daily driver that I can race on weekends. Not a full blown race car. Turbo boost doesn't lower compression it raises it. Ever wonder why most turbo run such low compression? It's because the turbo is forcing more air into the cylinder than a N/T car would have. This is why a Integra type-r (just an example) runs I believe a 14:1 ratio as opposed to my cars 7.8:1 ratio. the lower the compression ratio is the more boost you can run in the car. If anything, I think I might raise the compression a little in my car.

i think that would be a really bad idea. i see that you live in massachusetts. the air there is so dense that a lowering of your compression ratio would be reccomended. go with what forcefed98gst said. find some 5:1 pistons and your set. also, dont listen to noslaser. that guy has no idea whatsoever about our cars. i think his front drive dsm only ran 119 in the 1/4. he's clueless;)

14:1 Compression ratio isn't even streetable. Integra Type-R's run somewhere around 11:1 c/r. If I were you I'd try to find some pistons out of a 95+ Turbo DSM to bump the compression ratio up to 8.5:1, plus they're said to be stronger pistons.

I hope you're not talking about making your car run a 5:1 compression ratio, 7.8:1 is already unreasonably low. Also what turbo are you runnining that is efficient to 30psi?

YES... he should pick up a set of 5:1 pistons... he might have to get them drilled to fit the stock rods... and since he will need them drilled, he should get them cross drilled as well (to help with cooling)but 30psi w/ 5:1 pistons and a 16G on an otherwise stock car will be fine...

and I will have to agree with perigrine, NAWWZlazer... eerr... Noslaser has NO clue about DSMs

:thumb:

Hey peregrine how do you know what the air is like here? You live in Nevada for god's sake! Are you some sort of meteorologist or somethin'? I'll do what I think is right. If I blow my motor, oh well. I'll fix it. Oh and this goes out to Noslaser. You may be a wiseman, but that doesn't give you a right to bring people down so buzz off and find somebody else to belittle. You worthless piece of dogs*%t!!!! You may think your smart, but I'll bet I know more about these cars than you do. And I'm still new to dsms. One more thing. I don't care how long it takes I WILL find you and flatten all the cars you own. You're a moron and you know it, but just don't want to admit it.
