Thinking about getting a 6-bolt Race Short Block---Ross Pistons, Eagle Rods, knife edged crank (maybe)

Does anyone have any suggestions who I should go with? Anyone already have a race short block with any good or bad experiences?
My car is still going to be a street/occastional track car, so I'm just trying to find out who builds fairly priced and reliable short blocks.
I have a few places in mind, want to see what you guys think.

Talon9310: Unless the crank in your block is bad NEVER cut it. That is just too hard for 95% of the machine shops out there to get right.

In your area Broadway Performance and Turbotrix could build and install a motor for you and do a VERY good job.
 
I picked mine up from Slowboy, fantastic work. DSMotorsport offers engine services and is in NJ so you may want to check them out too, although I think they farm out the work to another builder. Its worth a call.

How long have you had the short block? Also if you don't mind, which rods and pistons did you go with?

I've just heard so many horror stories, spun rod bearings, blown motor, etc... after a couple of thousand miles. You know... the no warranty cause its a race motor thing:cry:
I just want to make sure I go to the right place and have it done right.

I have not run the engine yet, its in its final stages of assembly. I still need a few things.

Anyway I went with SBR's Stage 1 engine since the car is also a daily driver. Its a Ross piston with 1G big rod combo built with Clevite bearings and ARP studs. I ran through a quick visual inspection of the engine when I got it. I noticed lube oozing from the arps studs and lube oozing from the bearings, evidence of proper building. Mike also painted the block without any overspray on the deck, timing or oil pan surfaces. The engine did not have a spec of dust on it and was bagged. These are just little things I looked that indicate Mikes time was well spent on my engine.

Although I haven't run it, I'm confident Mike did a good job assembling it. I spent hours on the phone with him and he gladly spent the time to make sure all my questions were answered. Do a search for SlowBoy, I'm sure you won't find one negative remark about his products.

Geez I sound like an infomercial. But the guy is good. I purchased everything from him but my FMIC and DSMlink.

Dave, he said knife edge. Are you referring to not cutting the journals, or the counterweights too?
