this seems to be a subject where i hear alot of variance. i get about 230-250 miles on just about 12.5 gallons, which is between 18-20. is there anything i can do to improve this? ive cleaned the injectors, replaced the o2, and done a good tuneup. i cant figure out why it is this low. is this common on DSMs(ive only owned one for 4 month now, it was worse when i got it)

I pulled 135 miles out of my last tank of gas 14mpg, I fill up at 1/4 tank. 160 before, 16mpg, but that was almost all highway miles. That is after I put in a new 02 sensor, NGK wires, NGKplugs gapped at .28, and K&N air filter. I am not to worried about it, I didn't buy this car for the gas mileage. I think its the whoosh sound I get addicted to so I press the gas and let off too much.

Wear a lighter right boot. All those tales about jackrabbit starts, and driving like there's an egg between your foot and the gas pedal? They're true. And don't rev as high.

26 mpg highway on my AWD.
Anyone who says they get higher on an AWD DSM is fooling the laws of physics somehow. :p

I have a 93 TSI AWD. Now im venting to Atmosphere, How much gas does it really save when i vent back in, Under Normal Driving Conditions

I get 20-23 MPG on my good old 90 gst with over 140k on the odometer, and even when I reach many times a full boost...
I try to keep my car well maintained to keep it gas efficient, but you gotta love that turbo sound, and at that time I really don't care about gas...

I'm pretty sure that if I drive without reaching a boost, I will get over 26 miles per galon, but I just can't help to "step on it", but ahhh, what ya' gonna do...!

couple weeks ago making the 5 hour trip back home i had a boost leak so i couldn't get on it. well i got about 28 miles per gallon, thats the only good thing that came out of that boost leak :/

Lucky if I get 10 mpg lately.

90% flow on 660 cc at 13.75 psi doesn't help.

But it sure feel good and scares the hell out of the rice boys!!!!

10 mpg? That sounds way way too low. Even in city driving, with lots of punching it(50 trim, 720s at 80%+ duty cycles) I am getting 16+ around town, 25+ mpg on the freeway.

That amount of fuel flow sounds like a LOT for 14 PSI of boost. Are you sure you dont have some sort of boost leaks somewhere?

actually your gas mileage will be better with more boost... higher compression = more efficient

I think you have the wrong definition of efficiency. There is NO way you could get better gas milage in boost. Have you ever heard of BSFC?

I'd have to agree with this. If you raised the static compression of the engine, I could see improved gas mileage. But raising the dynamic compression, by stuffing lots more air in, isnt making anything more efficient. Also, the stock ECU has richer air fuel ratio targets as the boost(or at least its guesstimate of what boost is) go up, so the more boost, makes it run that much richer, giving you worse mileage.

Brake Specific Fuel Cunsumtion is the amount of fuel used based on the amount of power made. If you are making boost you are making more power than if you weren't, thus you would be using more fuel. This is compounded by the fact that the ECU will command a richer fuel mixture under boost as apposed to low load driving.

I don't have a MAS I'm running a a VPC. Plus there no boost leak because everything is t-bolted and doucled checked?

Well if you dont have a MAS, then you are right, boost leaks probably arent gonna be your problem. Its gotta be running really rich though, to get that mileage on the street. My mileage didnt really go down much when I swapped to this 50 trim from stock, just a few MPG, even though I run as much as 21-22 PSI on the street, and get into the throttle a good bit. How old is the O2 sensor? How did you check the tuning of the VPC?

If u have a Walbro 255LPH fuel pump, how much would that drop your gas mileage for a 2G?

I've said this before and will say it again. I don't know why some cars get awesome gas mileage and some bad. But I think the one big mistake people make with figure out gas milage is to look at the needle in the cars and asume they are getting 28-30 mpg.

To get the a good reading this is what you need to do is:
1. Fill you tank until the thing stops and reset trip.
2. Drive around and get the needle to at least 3/4
3. Fill back up to a full tank until the pump stop it self.
4. Take the mileage and divide it buy how much you pumped.
5. Bingo that's you Gas mileage.

The few thing that will give you better gas mileage are.
1. Have a bad method of guessing what there MPG are.
2. People who do a lot of highway driving and don't tell you.
3. Some how they know how to drive the car better then anyone.
4. Just Guess.

I think people who get 25-30 in city are doing one of thous things.

I get about 13-14, but i do much neighborhood / extreme stop and go city driving. And i calculate it the way AWDBoost does it also.
