Nova,
hey there,
well, I made up my intercooler pipes about 3 months ago from aluminized steel 2.5" piping. Well, I took em off today, and the insides were rusted up. I painted the outsides and they are fine, but there isn't really a way to get down and paint the insides, especially with some of the complex bends that mine have to make. I'm wondering what I might be able to do to stop it and or clean it up. If not, it's really gonna suck reproducing/ welding again all the piping in stainless.

I was thinking that there may be similar problems with dejon pipes maybe, since I heard they use aluminized steel and they only powdercoat the outside...any help?

thanks

i have no clue, besides completely submerging them in paint and then letting the excess drip off,but only an idiot like me would think of that. if you can't submerge, cap the ends pour it in and shake away. it works theoretically, sorry i can't give you the answer you're looking for.. theres gotta be some simple solution.

I know of stuff that is used to rust proof steel bicycle frames that should work. It's called J.P. Weigle's Frame Saver. It comes in a spray can. The stuff comes out like thin oil so you can tilt the pipes in all different directions and coat the whole insides. After several hours it dries into a thick, grease-like finish. Any bike shop should be able to order it for $15.

they have expanding oils they use in airplanes.

or you could not be cheap and send the pipes off to a company like hpc to have the pipes ceramic coated inside and out. it usually runs about 13 a foot.

or...you coudl jsut put your breather hose back on (if its off), the steel will get coated witha lil bit of engine oil, and wham. thats it.

My piping is Dejon tool also, and its about a year,18 months old and looks like an old buick's exhuast pipe..the stuff is reall junk. thats the last time i buy anything non SS.

I hit the inside with WD40 before mounting it. I knew I would need something as I have a filter in my PCV hose, so no oil gets in my intercooler. My pipes are not rusty. I have a Dave Brodie UIC, and live in a wet climate.

Search around the area you live in. Look for someone who does industial coatings. These places do work for factories and such. They will usually do something like that cheap because they will use the excess from another job they have for a factory. They have different colors and heat resistant stuff too. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

yeah, I have a filter in my pcv hose too. I'll try this method and see what it does for me, since its the cheapest :D .
