I have been told that the old starion i/c aren't worth a damn. Is the supra mkIV side mount worth the money, time, and destruction? A local kid has a really clean one for sale for $100.

The old starion hardly flows more then the stock unit, it IS a FMIC but the end tanks and the piping are so god aweful they do not allow significant cooling and do heat soak. If you were to cut off the endtanks and weld on larger onew it would be better.

The MKIV supra Sidemount is WAY BETTER in every way. I supports 500CFMS, so basically a Small 16G, or 14B or T-25 would benefit from NOT ONLY an additional 2.5 PSI (you lose that pressure as it goes through your CRAP SMIC) it won't heat soak, flows VERY well and you will see significatn performance gains. Try like a 20G and it'll soak.
BUY IT ASAP< but it is hard to install, need some custom fabs but there are many people who have done it, just search, here and at www.dsmtalk.com

Install is NOT hard. Its very easy. Took me a few hours. Didnt notice a big performance gain, but thats because im still on the stock t25. My car feels happier in the upper rpms.

Does anyone know what needs to be done in order to install a supra sidemount? I was thinking of going that way, for sleeping purposes, but if its a big pain in the ass to put on, then i'd rather just save for a fmic. any help would be appreciated!

I installed the supra SMIC w/out hammering at the car. I did cut out the part on the top so the tank could fit, but i didnt hammer at the fender well. I just dont have a side marker light on that side anymore :)

Actually the SSMIC is about ~590ci rather than 496cc
the stocker is ~190ci. :thumb:

Great gains. I love it and hate it at the same time. rather have a FMIC, but unless you can get a GOOD fmic get the SSMIC. if you half ass it, you might as well half ass it with a good intercooler. ;)

You'll be eating those words, my friend

Yeah it'll work for a WHILE, it WILL heat soak, if not then why does everyone run FMIC'S? Why do supra upgread from them? They can efficiently flow about 500CFM's, that is it, after that they tend to heat soak. NO WHERE NEAR AS BAD as the stockers, but they will. You will also get pressure drop after a while, comon no Sidemount compairs to a FMIC unless we are talking about the starion or similar inefficient POS's.

I guess it would be fine for a 1/4 mile run, but for regular driving and 20+PSI boost from a 50, no way.
