I sold my 95 gs-t for a awd and the new car is a 1990 eagle talon tsi awd. I know dsm's smoke but it is always black smoke.. 119,000 miles. When i bought it, it had not been started in about 3 months. When we started it it was blowing smoke until i shut it off. Also when i reved the engine the rpm and boost went up normally, but the after removing my foot from the gas pedal the rms droped to about 200 rpms and almost died. The smoke was white. It also has not had un oil change in 4 months. Do I need a new engine, or is it a problem that I gan fix? Or worth fixing? Please help. thanks

i know that gas goes bad after sitting for a while and that might make a difference. It also definitely needs an oil change. drain the gas and put high octane in it, change the oil, and then see how it runs. you may have to adjust the base idle set screw if it almost died but do the other stuff first to see how it looks. you could also change the plugs and wires.

When I rebuilt my motor, a LOT of white smoke came out the tail pipe for about 1/2 hour. It was pretty scary at first (I thought I was burning coolant). But it cleared up slowly. I think it was bad gas like InferiorWang said.
PS. The car was sitting for about 5 months before i got it running

Yes, if the car sits for long enough it will build up condensation in the gas tank…most fuel additives have a chemical in them that will dissolve the water (that is if you don’t want to go through the trouble of draining the tank)…a little black smoke at wot is normal, a lot is usually a boost leak…I would run a full tank of gas through the car with some fuel additive in it…this will probably clear up the problem, or you could drain the tank…hope everything works out

thanks guys i will try that. I think that the engine is going south anyway. I think that i am going to AMS and buy a jdm motor. Any other advise would be great.

Well, If it still has the stock Turbo, then the turbo is blown, have you unplugged the Intake piping to check for play in the turbo? I hear stock turbos usually go out around 90,000miles, also it could be a blown head gasket.

The turbo was changed at or about 90,000 miles. But the kid drove around without a turbo for a month. I dont know if that would have hurt it. I do think that the head gasket is gone. The engine does have 119,000 miles on it. I think that I will drop in a newer engine. JDM. What are you opions about changing the engine and drive with out a turbo.

Well HBM4G63....I'm 16 years old as well....i guess i don't talk from experience. I am talking about what I have read online (trust me I have devoted a lot time in reading, and researching about DSM’s), also about what I have learn in my automotive class….I’ve researched a lot about smoke coming out of the tailpipe, because I also have the same problem my car has been at a stand still for about 2 years..…But my smoke thanes to be white…which I believe to be condensation(or at least I hope it is) I believe white smoke can be condensation or an head gasket because cooling fluid (from the water jackets(I hope that’s the right name)) burns white. I also have heard of the turbo gasket causing smoke ((don’t know what color). Also of the EGR value being bad causing smoke. But if the smoke thanes to be blue….That’s not good…that maybe oil burning due to faulty oil rings….also smoke can be caused by bad values…. So there’s many reasons why your car maybe smoking…So I think you should take it to some1 that maybe able to tell you what your smoke is…Just for piece of mind…Beware of some mechanics telling you , that you will spend to much $ on fixing it, and asking you to sell it to them…If anyone else has some input or wants to correct me please feel free…. Cause I would also appreciate the help…

i would go with a rebuilt 6 bolt. i can hook u up with great guy to build u what ever u want. u can email me or reply back. email is [email protected]

here is what i did to my car. it is a 2g. damn crank walk. didnt want to go through it again so i found a guy that could do a good stock fabrication. very strong. i got a 6bolt block with 1g big rods attached to 2g pistons coated. also had it balanced and blueprinted. balance shafts removed, this frees up some horses. u could go with this setup or if u want to go bigger he can do that also. i looked into the jdm motors but this was alot cheaper and u know u have good as new short block. no worries with how somebody else took care of their motor.

if you have not started the motor for awile the smoke is oil leaked down the valve seal from sitting there, and into the combustion chamber, just keep the car going it should disapeer after the car has warmed up.

Fixing the valve seals is no big deal, just pull the head off and do it your self or any shop/ garage can do it for you, not expensive at least not as what your thinking about.

First of all talon tsiwad94 I am not 16. I have no clue where you got that. But what should i replace in the motor to make it driveable? I tried driving it and I dont think that I should. I have alot of plans for the car, but it has to be in good condition to start moding it. Unless I start moding it as i fix up the motor. What should I do? I have no idea. Please help.

I think that I will be buying a new motor. The block has a crack in it. Thanks for all the help. I will be installing the motor in a couple of weeks. I will be puting up with the smoke for awhile, since if i blow the motor i will have a back up. Any help with the install would be great. I am living in Iowa. If you live in Iowa. Post and I will give you a call.

Hey dude if you are getting a new motor you might as well go for jdm 4g63......... it kicks out 220 hp and 228 of tourque..... when i when to shop near my house the guy said its because it has a intake system a little bit different that the here what it does is instead of just sucking in air it makes the air go in like a vortex thing like a tornado.....on top of the intake manifold it says clyclone engine.......plus thats what i have in mine 90 GSX all i did was put in a filter, straight pipe and strip out the inside of my car exept for the driver seat. And im taking out GT satngs, Z28s and stay on the rear bumper of SS,s and T_As!

OH #@%#@%#@%#@% almost forgot they come with about 15,000 miles on it..........mine came with 13,850....just the motor runs about 1000 thats what i payd for mine........you can go to www.infinitemotorsports.net they sell the motor and AWD tranny for 1699.00......but if you go around i bet you could find it cheaper.... good luck dude :)
