Princeton,
i've read about some of the 1g guys replacing their internals with 95 pistons, rods... Is there something special about 95 internals? or 2g internals in general compared to 1g? just wondering
thanks

I put up a reply to this post in the Hangout section. But it does belong here...or maybe in the Newbie section (no offense). Just post in one forum. It gets annoying seeing the exact same posts in more than one section (not trying to bust your balls LOL.

no offence taken, i'm definately new to the forum, that was actually my first post and after posting it the first time in the hangout i realized it should have been posted in "2.0 Turbo Performance" the first time. I am a newbie to the forum, but i didn't know if that question was something people who have never or are just starting to modify their DSM would be able to answer.

not just newbies go to the newbie area. some people who know what they are talking about go there and help people out. we all had zero knowledge about dsm's at one point.

you dont want to replace the rods with 95 rods. you want to replace the pistons and rings with 95 turbo parts. The rods have to be machined.

1G - "big" rods and 7.8:1 compression pistons.

2G - smaller rods and 8.5:1 pistons.

Optimum (not including aftermarket) - 1G rods machined to fit 2G pistons on them.

There are many other differences between 1G and 2G engines dispite(sp?) the fact they share the same engine code (4G63), but you asked about internals so I will stop here.

Hope this helps... Joe

ps- Welcome to the forum, we are glad to have ya!

thanks joe, i definately appreciate the hospitality
it's always nice to deal with good people.

i have a friend who has a built corvette and on his forum all that everyone does is insult eachother. it's pathetic

Almost every DSMer i've ever come in contact with has always been very cool. We should definately keep that tradition strong.
talk to you later
joel
