Boiling sound?

Drove my car around and when I pulled into the garage and shut off my car, I heard a boiling sound coming from the engine. When I popped the hood, I couldn't tell exactly where is was coming from but it was in the general area of the battery (The sound lasted for about 5 min then stopped). I didn't see water coming from the battery so I have no idea where this noise is coming from. Any ideas? It was pretty hot today and I was running the AC.

If it is my battery, would it boil only on hot days/hard driving, or would it boil everytime I drive my car?

It could be the coolant boiling in the thermostat housing. When the coolant isn't flowing it just sits there so the hot metal parts heat it beyond it's boiling point. (I don't know, but that sounds good to me)

It’s probably your coolant…if the antifreeze is old it will lose it effectiveness gradually lowering it’s boiling point or if there is an insufficient mixture of antifreeze and water this could happen as well… it usually boils over from the thermostat housing to the reservoir and both are within a couple feet of the battery… (sounds good to me too)
